A trio of breath-taking family-and-dog-friendly retreats infused with history, luxury and artistic inspiration, each with a hot tub and beautifully secluded directly on Cornwall’s award-winning Porthkidney Sands.
  • Sleeps: 1-20 guests
  • Bedrooms: 2 or 4 per house
  • Bathrooms: 1 or 2 per house
  • Minimum stay: 2 nights

Booked separately or all together, Beach Pads are no ordinary beach houses. Firstly, each of these three luxurious family-owned retreats are directly secluded on the Porthkidney Sands section of the Hayle Estuary, and the beach location named as 2024’s Best UK Beach by The Times and Sunday Times.

Secondly, Beach Pads were once home to the iconic Cornish artist, John Miller. Many of Miller’s most celebrated paintings were created right here, including the idyllic beachscape seen on the cover of Chris Rea’s popular album, ‘King of the Beach’.

Each Beach Pad boasts private self-contained facilities (including a hot tub). Vitally, they are also family and dog-friendly, so no-one needs to stay behind and miss all the fun! Particularly since the vast, maddeningly beautiful, oft-deserted Porthkidney Sands is dog-friendly all year round.

Oh, and when it comes to group stays, flexibility is built right in!  Owner Nicola and her team will manage your booking to ensure everyone is comfortable, from respectful stag and hen parties to mixed-family getaways (the combined Pads sleep up to 20 guests, or potentially more with children sharing rooms).

The Beach House (5 guests) is John Miller’s former painting studio, transformed into a stylish open-plan haven with spectacular views from every room. Two first-floor bedrooms – a kingsize and a twin – each boast dreamy bay views and ample storage space, with room for a fifth guest on the comfy sofa bed downstairs.

The Ferry House (7 guests) is named in honour of its previous life, as the location of the ancient Lelant-to-Hayle Ferry. Indulgent facilities include a fabulously well-equipped “cook’s kitchen” and an indoor heated swimming pool for lazy afternoon laps.

There’s also a glorious sun room, a TV snug, and a huge ‘made-for-socialising’ garden that overlooks the beach, for the ultimate in indoor/outdoor living. One of the four versatile bedrooms is situated on the ground floor – together with a shower room – that makes it ideal for guests not wanting to tackle stairs.

More information

Last but by no means least, The Ferryman’s Rest (8 guests) was once home not only to John Miller, but the Lelant-to-Hayle Ferrymen of yore. These days, white-wooden floors, high vaulted ceilings and fresh seaside-inspired décor will charm you from the moment you arrive, while four versatile bedrooms promise sound nights of sea-soundtracked slumber.

When morning rolls around, freshen up in the opulent white quartz-tiled bathroom before spending a lazy day out on the patio, handily equipped with a chimney barbecue for sizzling sunset suppers later on.

Whichever Beach Pad you choose, you’ll be achingly close to a wealth of unique delights in this magnificent corner of Cornwall, many via the South West Coastal Path. Stroll into Carbis Bay onto St. Ives, or jump in the car to visit iconic hotspots, including the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan.

The opportunities for watersports are endless – right from your doorstep! – while nature-spotting is a given here, with the area home to the most southerly RSPB Reserve. You may even catch sight of seals gambolling in the sea without even having to leave your chosen Beach Pad!

Spend endless laughter-filled days doing exactly what you like, before toasting another golden-hued evening from the comfort of your scenic terrace – or indeed, your heavenly hot tub, for pure holiday bliss.

What the guests of Beach Pads say

“Amazing stay at a stunning location. The location of the Beach House is incredible. There’s something special about the walk through the dunes to this magical beachfront hideaway. The house itself is simple enough to make for the kind of holiday living that we appreciate as a family, whilst having everything we needed. And the view…we’ve stayed in some nice places over the years, but the view from this place is unsurpassed in our experience. To lie in bed and watch the sea and listen to the waves was incredible. That epitomised the location really – despite being remote and peaceful, we never felt isolated. Communication with Nicola was exemplary. We broke down en route, arriving 24 hours late, and she gifted us an extra night! And then there was the birthday cake and card for my wife, the Father’s Day message for me and the encouraging words for our daughter’s gig at a nearby hotel. So thoughtful and kind. What could have made it better… Another week or two!”

“I’m not sure I will ever find the words to do Ferry House justice and I will be mulling over my words to the review for a while I’m sure trying to pick the right ones, but you as a host are just as special at the property. The many small beautiful personalised touches to the stay is something I will treasure and appreciate forever. Thank you to you and the team for allowing and helping us all that book with you, make core lifelong memories at Ferry House. It was truly a magical experience.”
