Named after an striking, aromatic plant in the mint family, Bastard Balm is an ultra-modern treehouse for two weary souls in need of rural relaxation.

The design-led retreat is privately secluded on a custom-built site in pure Oxfordshire countryside, with all accommodation conveniently spaced on one floor. Huge windows and floor-to-ceiling glass doors mean you can enjoy the beauty of your surroundings wherever you are, and no matter what the weather has in store!

On chillier days, the woodburner is a cosy and warming companion, and there’s a TV to snuggle around with a well-deserved bottle of wine. The kitchen is equipped with everything you’ll need for a restful stay, and the invigorating shower will help you freshen up after long country strolls.

If you’re in the mood to meet new friends, the surrounding woodlands and firepit are shared with the other properties on-site, as is the yoga platform – ideal for morning sun salutations!

Otherwise, unwind on your private decking, head for Oxford’s bustling city centre, or take a footpath to Port Meadow and the River Thames. Here you can wander along the towpath and stop for a drink, before visiting the Oxford Botanic Garden to take in even more incredible natural beauty.
