Beautifully located along a tranquil road in the heart of the Sperrin Mountains, a stay at Bancran School sets the many delights of Northern Ireland right at your feet.

Not only is Derry a mere 45 minutes away, via a magical drive through the mountains, but Giant’s Causeway can be accessed in under an hour, along with the captivating beaches at Portrush and Portstewart.

Yet you’ll have to leave your chosen Bancran School retreat first.  And once you’ve settled in, it’s unlikely you’ll want to – particularly as the friendly family-run site also features relaxing hot tubs, a gym, and a sociable barbecue area with a communal ‘Gin Tin’ for giggle-fuelled tipples!

Each of the aforementioned retreats is fully self-contained and ideal for couples or young families.

The Black Shack is a luxurious, detail-led Tiny House retreat, with a relaxed open plan living space that features soft leather sofas and a wood-burning stove… a genuine treat after a long day exploring the local area (when you’re not unwinding in the private hot tub, that is!)

There’s also a huge, bright bathroom to freshen up in, and an innovative pallet bed to curl up in for a sound night’s sleep.

The Pod, meanwhile, is peacefully secluded at the rear of the site.  A sleek, arched retreat with its own private wood-fired hot tub, you’ll be welcomed with high quality, space-maximising facilities that will make you feel wonderfully snug.

A spacious, light-filled apartment that’s suitable for young families, The Loft is a breath-taking space with a private entrance and sumptuous furnishings, including an elevated kingsize bed, a clever pull-out child’s bed, and a squishy sofa bed for those weary heads. The Loft also has a private patio area to enjoy the weather, and a cast iron outdoor bath.

Last but by no means least, the Hen House is a quirky, corrugated Tiny House retreat with a comfy double bedroom, a private hot tub, and daylight-attracting gallery windows that showcase the Sperrin Mountains to absolute perfection! Spend the evening taking in the views whilst relaxing in front of the Danish Morso stove.

Once you’ve settled into your chosen retreat, why not head for the Gin Tin and shoot the breeze with your loved ones, or some friends you haven’t met yet? Equipped with outdoor patio heaters, a large Weber gas barbecue and Ooni pizza oven, there’s also a selection of board games and a Sky Sports-equipped TV (hint: you may be some time!)

Rather take some quiet time out, just for yourselves? You’ll find the area surrounding Bancran School peppered with calming forest walks, and there are even a few play parks to be found, for the kids to let off some steam.

Things to note

The site is part of a private family home, so not suitable for parties or gatherings. There is a strict ‘no outside noise’ policy from 10pm, when the Gin Tin and communal spaces close.
