View the clear night sky (and possibly the Northern Lights) with a breath-taking stay in a glinting glass igloo on the edge of the Arctic Circle.
  • Sleeps: 2 (+2) per igloo
  • Bedrooms: 1 per igloo
  • Bathrooms: 1 per igloo
  • Minimum stay: 1 night

A glistening display on the shores of Finnish Lapland’s Lake Ranuanjärvi, Arctic Fox Igloos are luxurious glass havens that promise to cocoon you in breath-taking natural beauty.

Located on the edge of the Arctic Circle, and dotted with towering fir trees, Ranua is a secluded area that’s far from city bustle – not to mention light pollution. That means your views of the vast sky overhead, the tranquil lake opposite, and the Northern horizon beyond, will be truly spectacular.

(Particularly if those hallowed Northern Lights decide to put in an appearance!)

Each igloo sleeps 2 adults, or 2 adults and 2 children, and you’ll find it equipped with deliciously cosy beds that are perfectly positioned for you to savour that scenery. There’s also a private, wood-walled section that’s home to a small kitchenette, a bathroom – and your very own forest-facing sauna.

There are some thoughtful additions, too. The igloo’s glass panels are heated, to stop snow settling on them and obscuring your view.

Meanwhile, if you were worried about drifting off, and potentially missing out on a Northern Lights display, a handy alarm call system will help to put your mind at rest!

A tasty breakfast is included, served in the friendly reception building (you’ve also got the option to add a three-course meal in the evening) and then it’s time to start your day.

More information

There are plenty of organised activities to choose from, including learning some traditional Lappish arts and crafts, or taking a fun husky safari in wintertime.

With Ranua Wildlife Park just a few miles away, there are also options to go reindeer-watching, or even meet a polar bear.

Oh, and you could even choose to head off on a dedicated Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) search, in a guided trip through the surrounding wilderness – including a steaming cup of hot juice, served around a crackling open fire.

Even if the lights themselves decide not to come out and play, you’re sure to enjoy lots of laughter, and the company of some brand-new friends.

Trudge back to your cosy igloo, which you’ll find shining under the starlight, and drift off to a blissful night’s sleep. Tomorrow beckons, bringing with it a whole new day of beauty, relaxation, and adventure.
