Designed by the renowned architect Nick Carroll, Ancarva (the Cornish word for ‘moorings’) is a chic, clean-lined waterfront haven that exudes five-star luxury.

Perfectly set in Cornwall’s “forgotten south-east corner” on the Rame Peninsula – part of the Rame Head Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – tranquil views across the tidal Millbrook Lake lead your gaze towards Mount Edgcumbe Country Park, for a captivating blend of coast and country.

Better still, you can savour those shimmering views no matter what the weather happens to be doing, with enormous glass doors and windows that showcase your surroundings to perfection.

But if the sun does happen to be shining, the lounge-worthy balcony and al fresco dining terrace are joys to spend time on… perhaps accompanied by a chilled glass of wine or two! There’s also a private slipway and pontoon for direct access to the Tamar Estuary – ideal for confirmed water-babies.

Inside awaits a large and luxurious living area, with solid oak floors and sumptuous, colourful furnishings. The light-filled kitchen and breakfast room is a sociable space with gleaming high-end appliances and beautiful views (be warned, there may be arguments over who gets to cook!)

You’ll have four elegant double bedrooms to choose from (three doubles and one twin room), two with en-suite shower rooms and all boasting soul-stirring views, sleeping up to eight guests in total. There’s a spacious family bathroom too, eliminating the potential for awkward morning queues.

Maybe you’ll stay put with a second mug of fresh coffee and a good book… though you may be distracted by views of the abundant bird life going about its day by the water!

You could also choose to get up close and personal with the waves, either by hiring a sailing boat or indulging in watersports. If you’re a beginner, Cornwall is the perfect place to learn the ropes and there are plenty of local instructors on hand to guide you.

What else? Stretch out your towel on the paradise-like beaches at Whitsand Bay, or head into bustling Plymouth – a mere 15 miles away – to do some holiday shopping and dine on delicious meals you didn’t have to cook.

However you decide to while away your time in this mesmerising slice of Cornwall, the best part of each day will no doubt include cradling your drink of choice out on that wow-factor balcony, just in time to watch the evening sun melting into the shimmering horizon beyond.

Changeover day is Saturday during peak season. At other times weekend breaks may be available from Friday to Tuesday and mid-week breaks from Tuesday to Friday. Pets are not permitted.
