Ty Cwch (Welsh for “boathouse”) was awarded a Tourism Innovation Award by Mid Wales Tourism, and was Highly Commended for Cardiff Project of the Year by Specifi.
Cwmtydu is a small cove on Cardigan Bay, on the Welsh Coast Path between Llangrannog and New Quay. The beach is 100 metres of sand and pebbles, with seals pupping most autumns and dolphins regularly seen offshore.
Book a single pod, or book the whole building — there’s a small-group price based on numbers, so smaller groups aren’t paying for space they don’t need.
Built by a local architect who specialises in sustainable design, Ty Cwch is made from stacked, larch-clad shipping containers with sail-like canvas canopies over the deck and large porthole windows. Inside, the pods are heated, insulated, and furnished with upcycled materials.

The Welsh Coast Path runs past the door — walk or cycle it through woodland and open countryside, or catch the Cardi Bach bus to extend the route to Cardigan or New Quay.

Three pods, each sleeping four in bunk beds, bedding supplied (bring your own duvet covers and pillowcases). Heating throughout. Two shower rooms/WCs upstairs. Ground floor: lounge with games, toys, videos and music; dining area; full kitchen. Washing machine and dryer. WCs and two external showers. Deck with infra-red heater; garden with firepit.

Store your own kayak or board at the house, or book a session with ICY UK. Good surfing beaches nearby include Llangrannog, and Whitesands near St Davids in Pembrokeshire.
If you’d rather stay closer to home, Da Mhile distillery near Llandysul makes a seaweed gin worth trying, and shares its site with Teifi Cheese.
Things to note
Book by the pod outside peak season, or the whole building any time. Small-group pricing is available for whole-building bookings, and it’s flexible if you want to add guests later.
Children of all ages welcome. Two well-behaved dogs allowed for whole-building bookings. Minimum stay: 2 nights at weekends, 4 nights midweek, 7 nights for a full week. Deposit required to secure booking. Check in from 4pm, check out by 10am.
