An incredible transformation of a former Victorian toilet block, into a stylish holiday home with spectacular Norfolk sea views.

  • Bedrooms: 2
  • Bathrooms: 2
  • Minimum stay: 1 week

The story behind Wee Retreat is endearingly unique.

Formerly a dilapidated Victorian toilet block on North Norfolk’s Sheringham seafront, the building was purchased by a local builder, who then proceeded to transform it into a stunning and contemporary holiday home, as an anniversary gift for his wife!

The two-storey haven didn’t just put a beaming smile on her face, it’s much-loved by the locals, and it’s almost certain to make you beam with delight, too.

First, there’s those idyllic, panoramic views out to sea, with the beach almost on your doorstep. Enjoy gazing out at the waves from the impeccably styled, open-plan lounge (or watch the Freesat TV instead!)

The clever use of space, together with the sophisticated, high-end look and feel throughout, is sure to amaze you – surely this amazing space can’t really have been a toilet block?

On cooler evenings, simply switch on the toasty underfloor heating, and curl up with a book or game – a selection of both have been thoughtfully provided.

Meanwhile, the well-equipped kitchen and diner features an electric oven and induction hob, with a breakfast bar and stools.

More information

When it’s time to turn in, there are two elegant, comfortable double bedrooms for you to choose from; one on the lower ground floor, and one on the first. Both are accessed by a spiral staircase, and both come complete with a private shower room (though you may want to claim the first-floor bedroom for yourself, as this one also features French doors that open out onto the veranda…and of course, those magnificent sea views!)

From the bedroom or the living space, simply slide the doors open to enjoy your morning coffee on that furnished, enclosed veranda, as you surround yourselves with fresh sea air. That’s a ritual that’s sure to become completely addictive before long, as you excitedly plan out the day ahead.

Rather wonderfully, all you have to do to reach the local shops and restaurants is take an invigorating stroll along the seafront!

If you prefer a country walk, you could head for Sheringham Park instead, filled with beautiful landscaped gardens that are still perfectly close to the sea (Sheringham’s town motto is “the sea enriches and the pine adorns”).

Otherwise, simply hop aboard the Poppyline steam train, for a romantic, old-fashioned journey to Weybourne and Holt.

However you decide to spend your days, you’re sure to find yourselves aching to get back to your Wee Retreat just as the sun starts to set, so you can feast your eyes on that blazing evening sky, armed (of course) with a chilled glass of wine.
