Refreshingly eco-friendly yurt and cabin glamping, secluded within 25 acres of soothing woodland on the Welsh borders.

Redwood Valley has a delicious, ‘secret woodland hideway' feel you're sure to fall in love with just as soon as you arrive.

(You'll be in good company, too, as the site has been featured in The Times and The Telegraph as one of Britain's top luxury glampsites and more recently in The Guardian's roundup of the best places to stay in UK forests).

Nestled within 25 magical acres of ancient oak woodland on the Welsh borders, this is a dreamlike setting for peace, tranquility, and gentle relaxation. Choose from two secluded yurts, perfectly positioned to overlook the wildflower meadow and the site's mighty Redwood, while amongst the treetops you'll find an enchanting woodland cabin.

Whichever you prefer, you can unwind amongst perfectly preserved surroundings. Redwood Valley has been specifically designed to care for the local environment, so you'll find recycled and eco-friendly materials used wherever possible (such as roof tiles re-imagined from car tyres!), biodegradable cleaning products, and pure, fresh water from a spring.

Each yurt is set on a raised platform and a generous 19ft, sleeping up to five guests in comfort. Eilian Yurt is a traditional Mongolian-made, handpainted yurt that's lined with felt for extra warmth, while Seren Yurt has been elegantly hand-crafted from locally-sourced ash.

Both are thoughtfully and beautifully furnished, with handmade beds and vintage accessories...along with a crackling woodburning stove.  Outside awaits your very own stargazing firepit and spring water tap.

Meanwhile, the Treetop Cabin comes complete with huge windows that showcase the woodland canopy in all its spectacular glory!  Master-crafted from valley wood, discover a ridiculously cosy double bed inside, along with a daybed that's ideal for a third guest or a child.

Settle in, then curl up in your very own balcony hammock, listening to the birds chatter away in the trees...what bliss!

Generous facilities include the Woodland Kitchen, equipped with absolutely everything you'll need to eat, drink and make merry at the long, sociable trestle table. There's also a piping hot gas-heated shower, equipped with biodegradable toiletries, and two composting loos - one exclusively for guests staying in the cabin.

There's plenty for everybody to do on site.  Let the kids roam free, den-building and creating magical woodland stories, while you curl up with a good book (board games and books on the local area are available in the kitchen area - ideal on rainy days).

There are two nature trails to wander through, and various birdwatching, woodwork and yoga courses are also held regularly on site...so you could even go home with a brand-new skill.

If you prefer getting under the skin of the local area, the bustling town of Presteigne is under a mile away, complete with shops, pubs and a wine bar. The book-lovers' town of Hay-on-Wye and the Brecon Beacons are also in easy reach, and ideal for a day trip, and Offa's Dyke is perfect for hiking opportunities.

Just make sure you head back to Redwood Valley in time for those first stars appearing in the clear, dark sky overhead. It's an awe-inspiring sight that's sure to stay in your mind for some time to come.

Things to note

Dogs are not permitted (except service dogs). Please bring torches, towels for the shower and additional bedding for the futons. No outdoor shoes to be worn inside the yurts or cabin.  Cabin access is via a five-minute uphill walk, so bring study footwear! Two-night stay minimum. No stag or hen parties.

Tried and tested

"That wasn't camping. That was a taste of paradise. Beautiful and luxurious facilities blending into a mature, natural woodland habitat teeming with wildlife. I cannot wait to get back there."

"This amazing retreat is the most idyllic and peaceful place around. Whether sat by the yurt or enjoying dinner; the only sounds are those of the birds singing and the river flowing. The beautiful surroundings are romantic and inspiring; a place to reflect and rest."

"From the compelling poster to the last wave goodbye, my experience of Redwood Valley was altogether delightful. In beautiful old woodland, with congenial hosts and a generous teacher, I had the greatest fun being there; and I made a greenwood table from start to finish - a magical weekend."
