Found in Harads, a peaceful village just 50 kilometres south of the Arctic Circle, Treehotel offers a unique chance to live among the trees, cocooned in an individually designed treeroom. With views of the beautiful Lule River Valley on one side and miles of towering forests on the other, coupled with the exceptional hospitality of owners Kent and Britta, Treehotel is sure to be one of the most magnificent stays of your life.
Your experience begins with a warm welcome and check-in at Treehotel guesthouse – followed by a short guided stroll through beautiful woodland to your chosen treeroom.
The first four of Treehotel’s seven amazing treerooms were created by Sweden’s prominent architects – Bertil Harström, Thomas Sandell, Tham Videgard and Mårten Cyren and today the seven rooms were collectively designed by six architects in total! Set above the ground (anywhere between four and ten metres up!) each brings together four components which influence Treehotel’s ethos: nature, ecological values, comfort and modern design.
Each treeroom makes the most of its private setting while providing total comfort – whether you’re visiting in the heights of summer or depths of winter. Underfloor heating powered by local hydroelectricity, low-energy LED lighting, water-efficient bathrooms and combustion toilets (or a freezing toilet if you’re staying in The Mirrorcube!) mean you can enjoy your beautiful natural surroundings without unnecessary impact. So which will you choose?
The Cabin – a stylish industrial cuboid suspended above a hillside – is the perfect couple’s hideaway. Accessed via a horizontal bridge, this contemporary cabin features a cosy double bed and the coolest rooftop terrace for total immersion in the trees!
If you opt to stay in The Mirrorcube, look carefully as you approach – it’s almost completely camouflaged! With mirrored walls, this aluminium cube built around a tree reflects the stunning surrounding woodland on every side. Fear not though – a long bridge leads you to the door, behind which is a minimalist sanctuary for two.
For something less inconspicuous, there’s the eye-catching UFO! This flying saucer among the trees makes for an unforgettable family holiday, sleeping two adults and three children. You’ll even enter from a staircase leading straight up through the bottom of The UFO!

More information
The Blue Cone offers something totally different again. This more accessible, traditional wooden creation sleeps four in a separate sleeping loft, and has three foundations in the ground. It’s also easily reached via a bridge from a nearby mountain.
On first sight of The Bird’s Nest, you’ll realise how it got its name, but the tangled exterior belies the peaceful calm of the interior. Offering a little more space for two adults and two children, it has a separate living area and a totally ingenious retractable staircase!
The Dragonfly is one of Treehotel’s largest rooms – perfect both as a conference space and as a spacious retreat for four adults. As well as panoramic views, it features a spectacular sheet metal exterior, which will soon rust to brown to blend with the natural surroundings.
Finally, The 7th Room breaks all conventions, located at the top of a ten-metre-high staircase! Even the underside is spectacular, with a photo of the trees that once stood on this spot. This large treeroom sleeps five, and features the most incredible patio – a sturdy cargo net intertwined with pines to feel as if you’re walking on the branches of the forest!
All treerooms are perfectly located for the luxurious hot showers and that ultimate Swedish staple – the sauna! Your stay includes a delicious homemade breakfast each day, either delivered to your treeroom or enjoyed in the vintage surroundings of Treehotel guesthouse. Be sure to dine in the guesthouse’s own restaurant too, which uses local produce with tastes inspired by the local forest, such as local fish, reindoor and moose.
When you climb back down to earth, there’s more to get you even closer to nature. In summer, try a range of activities from hiking in the Korgen Nature Reserve, to white water rafting, or even spotting moose, elk and bears! Winter visitors are equally spoiled for choice, with sledding, ice fishing or snowmobile rides! And then of course, there’s the magic of the Northern Lights to experience if you’re lucky…the perfect finale to your spectacular stay.
Words do little justice to an experience like Treehotel, so the best way to truly understand this heaven among the trees is to escape there yourself! So what’s stopping you?
Things to note
