The Sleepout at Sunny Lea
Wales / Meifod, Powys
A lovingly hand-crafted wooden cabin offering an invigorating blend of relaxation and adventure in the heart of the Welsh countryside.
If you're looking for a relaxing break in a peaceful setting that's also vibrantly imbued with a fresh sense of outdoor adventure, look no further than The Sleepout at Sunny Lea!
Perfectly secluded in seven lush acres of Welsh countryside, you'll discover everything you need for a self-catering holiday to remember. First up are the exceptional views of the Vrynwy valley which can be absorbed even as you relax in bed as you listen to the soothing sounds of your friendly neighbourhood birds and sheep.
The Sleepout itself has been designed with comfort and beauty built right in, handcrafted from unusual, individually sourced wood by its owner Mike, resident ‘Man of the Woods' - a professional tree surgeon and qualified mountain leader.
Sleeping two people, the cabin features a warming wood-burning stove with plenty of all-important firewood available to keep you cosy all the way through your stay...why not snuggle up with a mug of something steaming after a hard day of adventure, surrounded by the soft, tranquil glow from the candle lanterns?
There's a comfy giant double bed right at the back of the Sleepout, accessed by a small ladder. For an extra touch of holiday luxury, you can also treat yourself to a well-stocked breakfast basket full of fresh local produce, for your first morning.
Next to the cabin you'll find a well-equipped camp kitchen with a hand-made pizza oven, gas burner and exquisite, bespoke-crafted wooden sink. The fire bowl is perfect for toasting some marshmallows to go alongside a mug of creamy hot chocolate!
A compost Treebog toilet can be found 30 paces away from the Sleepout, and there's also a separate shower pod with plenty of gas-powered, piping hot water and fluffy towels to revive and rejuvenate your senses.
Meanwhile, all around you is the bounty of natural wildlife, with plenty of birds to spot including ravens, buzzards, woodpeckers and jays to name but a few. Why not make friends with the local foxes, badgers, rabbits, squirrels, and even the occasional riverside otter?
Further afield, just a mile away is the picturesque village of Meifod where there is a local shop for holiday essentials. And you're in for a thrilling treat if outdoor adventure is your thing, starting with plenty of accessible wondrous woodland walks and mountain biking tracks (the site is close to Offa's Dyke and directly on Glyndwr's Way) through wildlife-steeped forestry and hills. The river in the valley also provides a handy abundance of perfect picnicking spots, as well as the ideal setting for canoeing and swimming.
You'll find you have the perfect base at Sunny Lea for all kinds of thrilling pursuits, including the Revolution Bike Park, a downhill mountain bike park where Red Bull's Quartermaster events were filmed, and the world-famous Zip World in Snowdonia. Personally tailored, guided walks can also be booked in advance of your stay with Sunnylea's resident Mountain leader Mike if so desired.
For those looking for a more tranquil way to spend the days, Montgomery is a picturesque little local town featuring a castle, art gallery and café to recharge those batteries. How about a trip on the Llanfair Light Railway, where you can take a romantic steam train all through the countryside?
With so very much to see and do, you won't regret booking a stay at the Sleepout at Sunny Lea. In fact, your natural sense of adventure may just depend on it!
