Featured in the New York Times Magazine and Monocle Magazine, Amsterdam’s SWEETS hotel is an innovative collection of 28 bridge houses scattered throughout the city, all accommodating a maximum of two guests.

Former bridge keeper’s houses are set along the city’s famous canals and have been vibrantly transformed into one-of-a-kind suites by a team of renowned Dutch architects and designers to become, in the words of a SWEETS co-founder, “little architectural eye-candies”.

Some of the suites are listed national monuments, others are built only a decade ago, some are set within tranquil lakeside neighbourhoods, while you’ll find some located in thriving local hotspots. Ideal for intrepid explorers, each and every suite is startlingly unique, with custom-built, space-saving furniture, dazzling bursts of colour, and warm-toned décor that complements your surroundings.

Amsterdam is known for its quirky cutting-edge style, and SWEETS hotel proudly showcases some of the very best design examples through its suites. Think wraparound windows, pristine laminate flooring, integrated ensuite bathrooms, and hand-made wooden beds that cleverly masquerade as benches.

Bridge house 103 – Buiksloterdraaibrug may be hard to pronounce if you’re British, but you’ll have plenty of scope to practise from its tourist-free setting on a serene lake in the north of the city where your only neighbours are the local swans. Bridge house 301 – Westerdoksbrug, set close to the lively Central Station, resembles a periscope and contains a bright pink curtained bed that’s sure to be a talking point!

Meanwhile, bridge house 310 – Theophile de Bockbrug is set by the buzzing Vondelpark – ideal for cyclist-watching over fresh coffee! Or how about bridge house 207 – Nieuwe Amstelbrug, set on the Amstel river and ideal for visiting the bustling local markets?

In every bridge house you will find a mini fridge, hot drink making facilities, crockery and cutlery. Each suite also has a self-composed Neighbourhood Guide that’s bursting with local suggestions for drinks, eating and sightseeing.
Whichever bridge house you choose, you’re guaranteed some of the very best panoramic views Amsterdam has to offer, from your exclusive position along the canal.
