Shooting Box Tower
England / Battle, Sussex
Full description
A characterful and imposing lodge on an historic Sussex estate, with far-reaching countryside views and plenty to explore.
Once the Shooting Lodge for Sussex's famed Ashburnham Estate, the Shooting Box Tower cuts an incredibly striking dash, even before you've entered.
With four stunning bedrooms, this impressive tower sleeps up to eight guests in idyllic comfort, with magnificent views from the top that lead your gaze over fields and woodland, all the way out to Hastings.
Even your approach to the tower is bathed in natural luxury, with access through a secluded country lane that's strewn with sweet-scented bluebells and wild anemones.
Once inside, your welcoming accommodation stretches generously out over four floors...and the open-plan reception room promises to take your breath away right from the start. With its glorious high ceilings and original wood panelling, Gothic-style windows, and a huge fireplace, this is the ideal setting for celebratory Champagne!
Head for the open-plan lounge for a ridiculously relaxing evening. An inviting mix of traditional and modern, you can expect squishy sofas and a large fireplace, with intricate wall tapestries...alongside a TV and DVD player, Bose SoundLink speakers, and a Nintendo Wii. There's also a grand oak dining table and chairs, for everybody to break bread at.
You'll find the first floor home to a well-equipped kitchen, an opulent bathroom with marble-effect flooring, and a corner shower room.
Then, simply head up the Jacob's Ladder-style stairs to discover two cosy kingsize bedrooms. The Blue Room features a four-poster bed and the original wood-panelled ceiling, while The Cream Room has gorgeous dual-aspect windows that look out towards Hastings.
The third floor is home to The Chocolate Room, and the fourth floor The Country Room, both twin bedrooms (one also includes an extra day bed) with the most spectacular woodland views.
Claim your favourite, then head back downstairs to the secluded garden. With a furnished patio, lots of seating, and a barbecue, this is the place for sizzling sunset suppers (not to mention long, lazy afternoons equipped with a cold glass of wine and a good book!)
With plenty of amazing wildlife walks right from the tower, keeping yourselves occupied throughout your stay is easy. Better still, there's a wealth of local attractions within an easy half-hour drive, from Battle Abbey and Bodiam Castle, to the romantic cobbled town of Rye.
Gather everyone together after exploring the local area, as you whip up a feast fit for the lord of the manor and catch up on the day's events.
You'll feel as though you've spirited yourselves away to your very own country estate - and that's a holiday experience everybody has to have at least once in their life!
