Full description
An architect designed, magazine-featured North Yorkshire haven, filled with mid-century style and spectacular views out to the North Sea.

"This home is a true one-off".

So stated Mid Century Magazine when describing Seaside Modernist, an awe-inspiring, designer Bridlington home with sweeping sea views and an absorbing ‘time capsule' feel.

Built in 1954, and boasting three modish double bedrooms, Seaside Modernist's architect was given a simple yet specific brief: to make the most of the jaw-dropping North Sea views. With full height windows running the entire length of the upper floor lounge, you'll be able to judge his efforts first-hand, as you gaze dreamily out to the cliffs of Flamborough Head.

Each room is relaxing, light-filled, and styled with well-chosen vintage pieces that complement the home's modernist design throughout (it helps that owners Natalie and Steve are both designers themselves!) Meanwhile, stand-out features including natural wood panelling, original built-in furniture, and a striking open-plan staircase pack a real ‘wow factor' punch.

You'll be greeted by a double-height stairway, which leads in to a sociable, open plan kitchen and dining area you'll find it hard to tear yourselves away from. Two garden view double bedrooms can be found on this floor, too, along with a retro-styled bathroom.

Head up that gorgeous staircase to the aforementioned lounge, complete with a wood-burning stove and plenty of squishy seating, a charming sunroom-studio space (ideal for creative types, or those who really have to catch up on work while they're away), and a third bedroom with shimmering bay views.

When you're not admiring the shifting sea, or watching a movie on the large flatscreen TV, you can always grab a book from the well-stocked shelves and head for the sanctuary of the large, mature garden. Blissfully private and tranquil, you're sure to feel at one with nature, and yourself.

If you can bear to drag yourselves away from Seaside Modernist, a mere 15-minute stroll will lead you along the beach to the harbour. Indulge in all those traditional seaside delights, including fish and chip suppers and amusement arcades, or take in a show at the Spa Theatre. Otherwise, head in the opposite direction with your camera, for superlative cliff top scenes of the North beach.

If you've brought the kids along, head for Sewerby Park, with its children's play area, small zoo and miniature golf course. Or for a slice of history, wander along the Georgian High Street and shop for antiques, then stop off for a well-deserved coffee before heading blissfully back in time all over again.
