Quetzalcoatl's Nest
Mexico / Naucalpan de Juarez, State of Mexico
Full description
A fantastical, fairytale stay in an architect-created sculpture garden, amidst the rugged landscape of the Valley of Mexico.
Inspired by an Aztec serpent god, Quetzalcoatl's Nest is an awe-inspiring sculpture garden, created by the acclaimed Mexican architect, Javier Senosiain.
With the aim of creating an organic space that would respect the rugged natural environment of Naucalpan de Juárez, just north of Mexico City, Senosiain built a serpent-like structure (complete with a mesmerising head and tail) that maximises the natural caves and curves surrounding it.
The result is ten breathtaking apartments spread over 165,000 square feet, complete with extensive botanical gardens, sparkling lakes, and enchanting mineral caves.
Bring up to seven guests along with you, to stay right in the ‘belly' of the serpent; or in other words, a unique five-bedroom apartment. Each room is cleverly connected by tunnels, and as there are no doors aside from the main entrance, natural light can come flooding inside.
Meanwhile, you can expect full home-style facilities, including a laundry room, a sociable living space, and a well-equipped kitchen with all the essentials (including bread, fruit and coffee) provided.
Of course, you can also expect jaw-dropping views of the surrounding landscape, which looks as though it's been inspired by the pages of a fantasy novel. It truly has to be seen to be believed, and once you have, it'll be hard to imagine a location more able to inspire relaxation, creativity, and pure wonder.
Friendly owner Patricia is more than happy to take you on a private tour of the botanical gardens, sharing her vast knowledge of the land and architecture along the way. With the gardens only accessible to private residents and apartment guests, you're sure to feel a wondrous sense of tranquillity as you explore.
If you want to venture further afield, or stock up on supplies, there is a shopping centre close by, with bustling Mexico City around half an hour away. History buffs will enjoy a visit to the Basilica de los Remedios, one of the oldest churches in Latin America.
However, you'll soon find that there's no real need to leave the comfort of your serpent's belly at all, as you catch up with your loved ones in what has to be a complete and utter ‘bucket list' stay.
Things to note
Self check-in is available, check out by 2pm. Pets not permitted. Not suited to guests with restricted mobility due to stairs used to access the property. Unrestricted access to the gardens, access to the park is between 9am - 5pm.
