A bold and quirky architectural gem, superbly nestled within the lush rainforest ferns of Australia's Great Otway National Park.

Lorne, the largest resort town along Australia's famed Great Ocean Road, is a very special part of the world.

Home to lush rainforests and sparkling waterfalls that lead down to paradise-style sandy beaches, it's a location that's often described as Victoria's answer to Byron Bay.

It's in this amazing setting that you'll discover Qii House Lorne, an architect-designed haven that sleeps up to eight people.

Shortlisted for the 2018 Holiday Rental Awards, and regularly featured in global magazines, Qii House Lorne features landscaped Japanese-inspired gardens, a sculpted meditation deck with soft underfloor lighting - and even its very own rainforest walking circuit.

Originally designed and constructed by Melbourne architect Edgard Pirrotta back in the 1970s, the house has since been lovingly transformed by its current owner Heather, as a relaxing retreat amongst nature.

Being clad in vertical timber, the house blends beautifully with its backdrop of blue gumtrees, and uses the principles of Feng Shui to restore balance and harmony, making it a true eco retreat.

As you wander through the gorgeously expansive house, you'll find plenty to marvel at. Gently curved ‘fishbowl' windows and high cathedral-style ceilings provide plenty of light and space, whilst showcasing those outstanding natural views to perfection.

Jaw-dropping features include a winding Tasmanian oak staircase, an indulgent outdoor bath house with hot tub, a garden swing seat, and a gorgeous al fresco pizza oven. Of course, you'll also find plenty of furnished relaxation spaces, to catch up and reconnect with your favourite people.

Meanwhile, vibrant pops of colour delight your senses, from the red-walled master bedroom and the huge yellow flowerpot light over the stairs, to the bright Smeg fridge in the well-equipped kitchen!

Additional creature comforts include silk rugs and cosy Merino woollen blankets, downy robes, a Qii spa bathroom hamper, and a sumptuous selection of locally-sourced produce for breakfast heaven.

There are four funky bedrooms to choose from; two kingsize suites, and two twin rooms, each complete with cheery yellow ‘popsicle' beds. Claim your favourite, then relax in the bespoke bar area with a well-deserved drink, heading out onto the covered deck later on for a sizzling barbecued supper.

Take the house's very own kilometre-long rainforest trail, known as the Zaborin Walk (meaning ‘sit to forget') and the ideal introduction to the area's many delights - including the spectacular, 30-metre long waterfalls known as Erskine Falls.

Afterwards, why not relax in your very own fern-fringed Garden Tearoom? Complete with a stone water fountain, a Japanese lantern and simple furnishings, it's the perfect place for everybody to restore and reset.

Ideal for those in need of some soul-soothing luxury, Qii House Lorne is the perfect Zen retreat.

Things to note

Corporate groups and group celebrations are possible, and the outdoor areas can accommodate up to 40 guests. Enquire for details. Minimum booking 2 nights off peak, 3 nights peak season and public holidays, 1 week Christmas and New Year period.

Tried and tested

"I just wanted to write and say thank you for sharing the incredible Qii House. It really is a wonderful space and lush environment in which to get together with friends. It was everything I expected and so much more. We spent so much of the beautiful weekend on the front deck, enjoying the sun, food, and each other's company in the rich, re-energising and revitalising forest. Very grounding. Thank you again for your expert hospitality and sharing of the gift that is Qii House. We all hope to return again same time next year."

"Thank you for having us for a very pleasant stay at Qii House. We all agree that this house has been totally unique to any of places we've stayed on our trip around Australia. We particularly enjoyed sitting out in the back decking and listening to the noises of the forest, going for walks around the house and visiting Erskine Falls. We appreciated the lovely gifts you left us and to leave the property relaxed and recuperated! Many Thanks again."

"We had a great stay at Heather's lovely home. From our massive welcome basket with complimentary bottle of wine to the thoughtfully stocked fridge and the gorgeous and quirky décor, the house is a delight. You really feel like you're ‘off the grid' when staying there. It's nestled in beautiful native bush and is wonderfully quiet, with the only sounds to wake you from birds and wind chimes. There's so much space to enjoy too - the deck in particular is perfect. It's huge and the perfect spot for a sundowner or BBQ or just to curl up with a book in the sun. I hope to be back one day soon!"
