Milovaig House

A cosily restored 19th century crofter's house with a wood-burning hot tub, remotely nestled on the atmospheric, windswept cliffs of the Isle of Skye.

A small, scenic hamlet on the Isle of Skye, here you'll discover soothing, sheep-dotted rural landscapes, and soaring clifftops that showcase incredible sea loch views. The Northern Lights even make regular appearances during the winter months, dancing their way across the vast, clear night sky.

Peacefully nestled on those soaring clifftops, Milovaig House was once a 19th century crofter's house, superbly renovated for 21st century Nordic-style living for up to six guests.

Light-filled and furnished in clean-lined minimalist style, you'll be able to gaze out over Loch Pooltiel from every room. Bordered by Skye's tallest sea cliffs, with the outer Hebrides visible on the horizon, the ever-changing views take in plenty of wildlife, from dolphins to sea eagles.

(Translation: you may find it difficult to tear yourselves away from the windows, so be sure to make a warming cuppa first!)

The ground-floor sun room provides a perfect viewing point, with its floor-to-ceiling glass doors, and a soft-glowing wood-burner to keep you cosy, even in the most dramatic of weathers.

Here you'll also find a snug area, with a TV and a sofa bed that's ideal for two children, a sociable dining room for six, and a well-equipped kitchen... perfect for turning the local fishermen's catch of the day into a delectable banquet.

Discover the rest of the sleeping spaces upstairs; an elegant kingsize room, and a twin or superking - whichever suits you best.  Regardless of the room you choose, you can drift off into a sound night's slumber to a gentle soundtrack of rolling ocean waves.

There's also a spacious bathroom, with an indulgent roll-top bathtub for sinking into with a good book, and a separate walk-in shower for post-ramble freshen-ups.

If you prefer a stargazing soak, simply head outside to the Swedish-style wood-burning hot tub, instead. The wild garden also features decking and a firepit, to toast marshmallows and keep your toes warm as you watch excitedly for those elusive Northern Lights.

Stock up on supplies at the local shop, two miles away (you'll need a car to reach the nearest supermarket) - though if you'd prefer someone else to do the catering, there are plenty of options on Skye, from friendly cafés to Michelin-starred eateries.

Of course, there are plenty of wildlife walks to be savoured, during which you can spot some of the country's rarest and wildest species. And did we mention that there are some incredible dark volcanic and white coral beaches just a few miles away?

Rich in both comfort and supreme natural beauty, Milovaig House is an invigorating escape to cherish.

Things to note

Check in from 4pm, check out by 10am. Pets are not permitted.  Please note that the house sits on working croft land, so expect lots of visiting sheep. A car is recommended for access and to explore the local area.
