Tucked away in the far north-western corner of the Scottish Highlands, Assynt is rich in natural wonder of just about every description.

Characterised by soaring mountains, soft white-sand beaches, shimmering lochs, and abundant wildlife, this is the perfect setting to detox from digital life, and immerse your weary soul in the beauty of nature.

And it’s right here, in the remote coastal settlement of Inverkirkaig, that you’ll discover Lazybed and Batbox: eco-friendly, self-contained beautiful cabins to help you breathe out and enjoy life in the scenic slow lane.

Both cabins have been bespoke-created from local, sustainably-sourced materials, including Douglas fir and natural sheep’s wool insulation, by a team of ecologically-aware craftspeople. Keen to protect the spectacular local environment as much as possible, the owners have also pledged to plant a tree for every square metre.

Affectionately named after old-style potato patches, Lazybed, a small, one bedroom house featuring a high, sloping ceiling, a cosy lounge with a TV, and a wood-burning stove to warm your evenings. Water is heated by a mini Norwegian boiler system, and there’s a downy kingsize bed (or twins if you prefer) to curl up in at night.

Batbox, meanwhile, is a light-filled, contemporary studio space, with an overhanging roof that inspired its name… on summer evenings you may also catch a glimpse of the local bats sweeping past.

Featuring a bespoke kitchen with a Dualit mini oven and a full-size larder fridge, you can snuggle up by the roaring Morso stove, in front of the flatscreen TV (while there’s no reception on either TV, there is a DVD player and a wide selection of films to choose from). There’s also a comfy double bed to aid a sound night’s sleep.

What the guests of Lazybed & Batbox say

“We had an absolutely wonderful week in the cabin! Our time was filled with great walks (Suilven from the door and Quinag) bike rides (Achiltibuie, Stoer) freezing, but lovely swims (Achmelvich, Clashnessie) and so much sun we even got the very elusive Scottish tan! The cabin was a lovely retreat full of wildlife – we saw a pine marten waltz up on the deck one night at dusk and we had a robin pal who dropped by for breakfast each morning (he’s a big fan of pancakes!) Good holidays always inspire and this one certainly delivered that. We’re feeling inspired by the locals, the nature and the beautiful cabin. Hope to be back one day! Thank you David and Gita!”

“What an amazing place this is, such a cleverly designed house that fits beautifully into the surrounding landscape. Thank you D&G for creating and maintaining such a comfortable, welcoming place.”

“We had the most amazing time on our mini-moon. Perfect place to get away from it all and truly relax. G&D have created this magical, tranquil and very special place. They have thought of everything and are fabulous hosts. The views are stunning and there are so many places to visit. We walked up Stac Pollaidh one day and along to Kirkaig Falls on another – all recommended. We will definitely be back!”
