Kiln Wing, Old Corn Mill
Northern Ireland / Bushmills, County Antrim
Escape from everyday life with a romantic break in a lovingly converted County Antrim corn mill, where your soundtrack is the gentle rushing river.
If you're looking for somewhere to escape to with your favourite person... somewhere you can really leave all the cares and stresses of modern life far behind you for a while, then the idyllic Kiln Wing is the perfect place.
Beautifully situated on the River Bush in Bushmills, County Antrim, the Kiln Wing forms part of a lovingly restored 19th century corn mill, rescued from dilapidation in the 1980s by a retired engineer with a soft spot for the charming village.
The mill is a much-loved B1 listed building that once formed an integral part of the village, with the Bush River itself used to help create the unique Irish whiskey, Old Bushmills.
You'll find the Kiln Wing has been beautifully preserved to retain all of its original character and charm, yet also contains everything you need for a tranquil break to remember. Feel welcomed as soon as you arrive, with a real sense of warmth that greets you as you step inside your new holiday home.
Discover many of the mill's original features as you explore, including the cogs and wheels at the building's core, and many glimpses of the live it once lived long ago still visible. Traditionally decorated and cosily furnished, you'll find plenty of recycled materials and references to local heritage throughout, from tasteful black and white postcards to early Old Bushmills bottles.
The living area, with its cosy seating and traditional oil-fired central heating, features windows that look out over the river...what better place to relax with a steaming mug of coffee? A well-equipped kitchen includes all you need to prepare hearty country-style feasts, decorated with tiles that were crafted in Scotland over a century ago, while an invigorating shower room is the perfect spot to freshen up at any time of the day.
With no TV to distract you, why not enjoy a glass or two of bubbles as you catch up on life and watch the orange sunset glinting over the water? When it's time to sleep, you'll find that listening to the soothing sounds of the river as you drift away is the perfect potion for a restful night, helped along with a beautifully dressed king-sized bed!
Venturing out during the day, why not begin with a tour of Bushmills Distillery and see just how the river makes such a vital contribution to producing the famous whiskey? Giant's Causeway is the perfect spot for some more adventurous activity, including a series of walks surrounded by breathtaking country scenery, while the beach at nearby Portballiontrae is ideal for a more relaxing day out in the sunshine.
So for a naturally romantic break that's definitely not run of the mill, head for the Kiln Wing at the Old Corn Mill and return feeling restored and revived!
