If you’re hankering for a total retreat – one that detaches you from the modern world and all its disturbances – rejoice in the simple life with a stay at Hex Cottage.
Hex Cottage is a thatched forester’s cottage located in Suffolk’s Sibton Park, offering a cosy hideaway for two. Set in its own meadow and surrounded by woodland, the cottage is a reminder of simpler days gone by. Without any access to electricity, you can indulge in the now-rare opportunity to unplug, to disconnect, and rejuvenate in undisturbed peace and quiet.
From outside, Hex Cottage appears as if straight from the pages of a storybook; its thatched roof, pitched eaves, and turquoise front door are a whimsical welcome on your arrival. And as you step inside, you also step back in history, leaving the world behind. Everything about this cottage is small but perfectly formed, reminding us that the simpler life most certainly is not a poorer one.
The kitchen is a warm and welcoming room, with an Esse wood-fired range cooker that supplies the cottage with heating and endless hot water. You can still see the original bread oven – just one of the cottage’s many features which has been retained, with others including the leaded windows and original flooring. The sideboard with butler sink complements the cottage’s heritage, as does the antique dining table with seating for four.
Leading through, you’ll come to the charming sitting room, complete with an open log fire, comfy sofa and warm, fluffy rug on the floor. It’s the perfect place to curl up on cold days and relish in long conversations together, with just the crackling fire as your soundtrack.
The romantic bedroom continues the fairy-tale feel, where a canopy completes the comfy king size bed. The soft, grey curtains pool on the wooden floor, while sunshine spills through the leaded, arched windows. Come night time, your bedside lights are flickering candles, and when it’s time to blow them out, you can finally relax in complete darkness.
Next door, you’ll find a gorgeously quirky bathroom, with a luxurious roll-top bath and zinc-coated vanity unit.
