A captivating and historic coastal retreat, rich in heritage and boasting a roof terrace that showcases Jersey's National Park to perfection.

Built on a rocky outcrop in St Catherine's Bay, all the way back in 1792, Archirondel Tower casts a romantic, windswept figure amongst the secluded beaches that surround it.

Infused with stories from centuries past, the four-storey tower was originally constructed to deter French invasion (on a clear day, you'll be able to gaze across the sea to France), and it has served as a key defensive point throughout Jersey's history ever since.

In 2019, the striking, red-and-white painted building was beautifully refurbished, to provide comfortable, heritage-rich family accommodation for two adults and two children. Close to St Catherine's Woods and its breakwater, this is a perfect base from which to explore this enthralling corner of Jersey (and indulge in some invigorating watersports at the same time!)

Each floor promises brand new delights, as you make your way up the narrow spiral staircase. The ground floor is home to a beautiful vaulted-ceiling kitchen with plenty of modern appliances, and a cosy dining area to chat long evenings away from.

Head up the stairs to access the modern shower room and sleeping area, which you'll find furnished with a downy double bed and two single sofa beds, flanked by ‘lookout windows' in the gently curved walls.

Continue up to the light-filled living area, which is furnished in contemporary style, and comes complete with a Freesat-equipped TV, and a log burning stove to help warm your toes in winter.

During summer, however, you'll want to head up the stairs even further, to the final storey - a gorgeous roof terrace that overlooks the glistening, tranquil Archirondel Bay, with postcard-perfect views you'll want to capture forever.

In fact, if you can face the occasional early morning, your roof terrace is the ideal setting from which to greet the morning sunrise, armed with a steaming mug of coffee.

Then, simply take a meandering hundred-yard stroll to the nearby café to fuel up on bacon rolls - unless you prefer whipping up a breakfast of kings in your own kitchen, that is - and get ready for a day of exploration and adventure!

Part of the Jersey National Park, the protected local area is teeming with secluded beaches and rare marine wildlife. Why not get acquainted with the island by taking a boat trip?

Archirondel Bay itself is ideal for gentler family activities, such as shallow swimming and rock pooling, with its pebble beach filled with candidates for skimming competitions across the water, or even making art.

Let your imaginations run wild, before retreating back to your glorious tower by evening... and head for bed looking forward to yet another day of fresh-air-filled wonder tomorrow!

Things to note

Check in from 3pm, check out by 10am. Please note that due to the very narrow, steep staircase, the tower is not suited to small children, or guests with limited mobility. Pets are not permitted.
