Appleton Water Tower
England / Sandringham, Norfolk
Full description
This magnificent Victorian water tower was built to service the royal estate of Sandringham back in 1877, today it remains an extraordinary structural feat with remarkable 360 degree views.
Topped with a 32,000 gallon cast iron tank, this free-standing and distinctive masterpiece of architecture was fully functioning until restoration began in 1976, transforming it into one of the most elegant accommodation options in Norfolk.
Looking out from the terrace on top of the tank, the views are sensational, panning over one mile wide in each direction. You can even see The Wash opening into the North Sea in the distance. Moving inside the tower, you will find four levels comprising reception rooms, bedrooms and the terrace. Spacious double and twin bedrooms sleep up to 4 guests in total, located on the first and second floors of the tower, whilst on ground level you have a well-equipped kitchen and reception area. The third floor has a bathroom with separate shower unit and provides access to the panoramic terrace.
The tower comes with an enclosed garden to enjoy, making it popular for those wishing to bring their dog as part of a family break with a unique historic twist, and there are also some permitted paths within the estate to explore. With its popular coast being just 20 minutes away by car, the tower has a prime location for discovering all that Norfolk has to offer.
