24 October 2018

Come with us on a whistle-stop glamping tour of some of the most incredible and unique places to rest your head and connect with the outside world.

Explore a tented elephant camp in one of Thailand’s most ancient nature reserves, stargaze from nature’s bubble in southern France, experience a primitive hotel immersed in Swedish nature, luxuriate in an African-inspired Australian tented escape, relax in a friendly and family-run Portuguese retreat or indulge in film-set chic and retro style in Tuscany.

The world truly is your oyster (or bell tent!)…

Elephant Hills, Thailand

A warm welcome or Sawasdee awaits at Elephant Hills – Thailand’s first ever luxury tented jungle camp. However this is no usual glamping retreat, as here you will also have the opportunity to feed and interact with friendly, cared-for Asian elephants along the way! There are no tricks, chains or elephant rides offered here. Rated 100% for its animal welfare, as well as being the recipient of a World Legacy Award for Sustainable Tourism, you can truly relax and indulge your senses at the visually captivating Elephant Hills, safe in the knowledge that your tropical surroundings and their friendly inhabitants are fully taken care of.

Noct’en Bulle, France

Cocoon yourself in nature’s bubble, with a refreshing retreat set in the heart of France’s Causses du Quercy National Park. Sleeping under the stars has never felt so refreshing than with a stay at Noct’en Bulle, where comfort and relaxation amongst the beauty of nature rule supreme. Feel as though you’ve left your ordinary world far behind as you arrive at the peaceful site, set in the midst of nature just under two hours from Toulouse. Here you’ll find plenty of new ways to relax, from lazing on a sunlounger at the outdoor pool (complete with countryside views all around), to tackling the many wondrous nature trails you’ll find right on your doorstep.

Kolarbyn, Sweden

Now for something completely different… and a stay at  “Sweden’s most primitive hotel” – Kolarbyn Eco Lodge (above and main picture). Go off-grid and retreat to a peaceful gathering of charcoal huts, all surrounded by lush forest. With no electricity or running water, you’re blissfully free to luxuriate in life’s natural delights, surrounded by morning birdsong and the soothing sound of crackling fire by evening. Located within beautiful spruce forest outside Skinnskatteberg, Sweden, you’ll find twelve cosy candlelit huts, each equipped with two bunks furnished with inflatable mattresses and ridiculously warm sheepskin rugs, as well as a timber lodge and, in summer, a selection of Tentsile tree tents, each suspended 1.5 metres from the ground.

Paperbark Camp, Australia

African safari style meets Australian spellbinding scenery at Paperbark Camp, where not only will you enjoy a truly memorable stay, you’ll be greeted with a welcome that’s almost as warm as the sun. The eco-friendly, family-run camp was originally inspired by the owners’ travels to Africa, and the spacious safari tents to be found there. Now at the forefront of luxury camping in Australia, this wonderful site is renowned for its cuisine, architect-designed treetop dining room, stylish tents and unrivalled bushland setting on Jervis Bay, complete with white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters just a couple of minutes away.

O Homem Verde, Portugal

Whether you’re part of a family, a couple or a small group in need of some precious relaxation time out of life, you’re guaranteed the warmest of welcomes at O Homem Verde – known in English as ‘The Green Man’. Owned by a friendly couple who are passionate about the benefits of living amongst nature, this Portuguese escape from life’s bustle was lovingly created as a refreshing alternative to bland hotel rooms. The simple aim is to provide a comfortable and calming experience for absolutely everybody to appreciate and enjoy, and that’s exactly what you’ll find here in their unique yurts, authentic Moorish tent and Attic Room.

Silverfield, Italy

You’ll find Silverfield, a glamping site rich in century-old cork trees and fragrant Mediterranean shrubs, in the heart of Punta Ala. An undiscovered part of popular Tuscany, nature and beach lovers alike will be in paradise here – this protected and extraordinarily beautiful natural area of Italy stretches out to Le Rocchette, complete with high cliffs, golden beaches with clear water that’s ideal for snorkelling, and fresh pine forest land. The replica airstream accommodation you’ll discover was inspired by American road trips, imbued with a carefree spirit and retro style that’s blended with plenty of contemporary comfort, and each is lovingly furnished and inspired by different creative elements.
