Vive la France: Rustic Windmills, Historic Château and – Rabbits!

6 June 2018

Vive la France! We celebrate the refined beauty and splendour of France with a trio of new arrivals, all reflecting the rich culture and inimitable style that defines this bold nation. We start our journey with a historic and iconic mill in a peaceful spot in the Véndee, before arriving at a fun and frivolous collection of animal houses, treetop escapes and glamping retreats near Poitiers. Finally, we recline, poolside at an authentic 15th century castle retreat fit for a king, in the Hautes Vienne region. C’est la belle vie, n’est-ce pas?

Moulin 85

If you’re looking to escape to the country for a slice of rural romance and history, then Moulin 85 is exactly what you’re looking for! Nestled in the stunning Vendée region, this expertly restored and beautifully renovated windmill is surrounded by endless green fields, sunflowers and traditional vineyards. Originally built in 1885,  the mill supplied flour to the people of the nearby village for many years. After extensive and loving restoration it is now one of the most beautiful – and quirky – places to rest your head in the French countryside. There are four floors of classic rustic style to greet you, interspersed with artistic touches and vibrant pops of colour throughout, providing a charming and homely feel. Relax in the private garden, take to the saddle and explore quaint French villages or jump in a car and recline on the beaches of this charming region.

DefiPlanet

Prepare yourselves for something rather unexpected and extraordinary near Poitiers, where a giant rabbit, chicken and snail house are all yours for the taking, with real animals to greet you as you arrive! This crazy world is DéfiPlanet (above and main picture) and their truly unique homes are lovingly themed and blissfully cosy, with plenty of fun and enchantment for the children to discover inside. There are also a small selection of cosy fairytale Mushroom Houses nearby. Elsewhere, tantalising treetop accommodation awaits, including the Castle in the Trees – a truly glorious way for the whole family to live amongst the leaves. Glamping options such as Mongolian yurts and gypsy caravans are also dotted across this beautiful 120 acre nature and adventure park, that even includes its own theme park, not forgetting of course the renowned Futuroscope just a short drive away for a unique multimedia experience!

Château Mareuil

Experience a regally rural and authentic 15th century castle at Château Mareuil, where ancient history and contemporary style combine to create a thrilling home-from-home. Lovers of the good life will be in heaven here in this remarkable place, set in the stunning Hautes Vienne region of France, high on a rock overlooking the natureful Asse valley. Great for a large family with the capacity for up to 10 guests, discover a studio apartment along with elegant guest suites and bedrooms in the château itself, beautifully styled and fit for royalty, traditionally furnished to blend with the rustic surroundings. Explore the pretty site and you’ll discover historic buildings, a sociable bar and games room in the former chapel, and an inviting 12m x 6m swimming pool – just what you need to revive and luxuriate in some of the best scenery France has to offer.
