On the Map: Astounding Stays in Africa

28 September 2022

Covering around one-fifth of the entire globe, Africa is the world’s second-largest continent (Asia being the largest).

Most of Africa is tropical; divided almost equally in two by the Equator, so if you worship the fiery sun then this is certainly the destination for you, with beach holidays that are akin to actual paradise.

Even better, there are some incredible sunset-seascapes to view in every direction… including the Atlantic Ocean to the west, the Mediterranean Sea to the north, and the Red Sea and Indian Ocean to the east.

And as you might expect from a continent so large and diverse, Africa is packed with some of the world’s biggest and best attributes. For example, the Sahara is the largest desert, the Nile the longest river, and the Victoria Falls the largest and most powerful waterfall on Earth. You can even catch sight of the animal kingdom’s ‘Big Five’ on an iconic African safari.

A true melting pot of cultures, there’s something new to discover in every African city, too, from the bazaars of Marrakech to Cape Town’s fascinating architecture, coastline, and epic views of Table Mountain.

Whatever whets your holiday appetite the most, you’re sure to discover it in our intriguing selection of African retreats.
