How many seaside boltholes can lay claim to their very own subterranean cave snug with direct sea views?  Welcome to Black Moon;an atmospheric and mesmerising Cornish retreat designed with romantics and explorers in mind. A Blyton-esque trap door leads from the living room into your private cave with fur rugs (pictured), whilst upstairs ceiling-to-floor glass doors allow light to flood in, along with the fresh salty air that hits the senses, sometimes accompanied by high tidewaves crashing against the cottage walls (main picture). Not forgettingof course those majestic views over St Ives Bay.

Another chic retreat in the working harbour turned cultural and tourism hotspot of St Ives, Blue Moonis a vibrant antidote to the usual seaside cottage. Cleverly staying ‘on theme’ by using nautical-inspired decor, this bijoux former fisherman’s home features two levels of contemporary design. The squishyL-shaped sofa is perfect for relaxing, and the electric underfloor heating makes it al the more cosy for those winter months. A perfect base for meandering the cobbled streets and exploring the many artist galleries, Blue Moon is sure to ignite your holiday spirit.

Offering direct access to the beach and a starlit steam room, Coxswain’sis also in St Ives. A charming stone-walled sanctuary that is impeccably designed over three floors, it is an ideal choice for families thanks to its generous proportions and furnishings including a large 6-seater sofa, fully equipped kitchen and outdoor patio – a perfect breakfast spot. Two of the three bedrooms are en-suite, and a third bathroom cleverly converts into the steam room facility, so if you’re tempted by a dip in the Cornish sea this could be the perfectly warming post-swim activity.
