New to Host Unusual: Caves, Trulli and Modern Design Getaways

18 February 2018

Unique craftsmanship, sublime settings and local inspiration are the themes running through this eclectic trio of properties, just added to Host Unusual. We start our journey in the heel of Italy’s boot and the authentic region of Apulia, home to the magnificent Trulli of Stars, an ancient traditional building restored to luxury and splendour. Perched on a rugged headland in the West of Ireland, Breac.House cleverly fuses serene and contemporary decor with dramatic scenery, and over in Andalucia, Spain, Cuevas Helena prove to us that cave dwellings can be anything BUT prehistoric!

Trulli of Stars

We love finding traditional and unique accommodation specific to one particular region here at Host Unusual, and this ‘Trulli’ is a perfect example of that! Referring to a cluster of traditional Apulian stone cottages with conical roofs, this ancient form of accommodation has been lovingly restored by the Favuzzi family to an exceptional standard. Master-crafted, exquisitely decorated and equipped with a variety of unique locally-sourced furnishings, here you have the option of booking just the Trulli for up to eight guests, or also the adjoining Relais, ideal for a larger group of up to fifteen. Relax in the sun-soaked spa, pool and Jacuzzi, taking in those amazing natural views, before heading out to explore the gorgeous city of Otsuni and its surrounding villages and beaches – an Italian heaven if ever we saw one!

Breac.House

Sitting proudly on one of Ireland’s most spectacular headlands, Breac.House cleverly fuses local and traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design to create a unique adult-only retreat. The award-winning architects behind this incredible space have allowed for panoramic views from every room of the house, creating a real affinity with and appreciation for the outdoors, whether it be the crashing Atlantic waves or dramatic mountains. Serenity and sophistication are key concepts here throughout, from the lounge, library and terrace areas to the rooms, which include premium oak beds and Donegal tweed throws, and it is an ideally positioned bolthole from which to enjoy some amazing walks, including the gorgeous Horn Head and its ever-changing skies, picnic backpack in tow – the perfect day adventure.

Cuevas Helena

Shake off any caveman images you may be harbouring, and be prepared to embrace unique cave living for the modern age, at the beautiful Cuevas Helena! With a setting to die for in the heart of the sun-kissed Andalucian countryside, this is a holiday home with a difference; homely yet completely original, with a perfect blend of ancient and modern including a social white-walled lounge, Andalucian kitchen and your very own ‘bodega’ corner… that’s before we have even mentioned the incredible outdoor pool with panoramic mountain views, palm trees, loungers and parasols! If she looks familiar, it is because Cuevas Helena featured in the TV programme ‘Our Dream Hotel’ – and when you set eyes on this gorgeous space in person, you’ll realise that this is entirely deserved.
