Upcott Roundhouse

Take a break from everyday life and soothe your senses with a naturally unique, off-grid Devon break that's magically infused with atmospheric Iron-age history.
  • Sleeps: Up to 10
  • Bedroom: Studio
  • Bathroom: 1
  • Minimum stay: 2 nights

Lovingly built from wood and thatch, perfect for secluded contemplation and simply enjoying life at its most free, Upcott Roundhouse is a welcoming, cathedral-like holiday home that has been constructed in the style of an authentic Iron-age house.  The result is a truly unforgettable glamping experience for up to ten people, imbued with natural quality and a blissful sense of tranquillity.

Discover this historic haven in an ancient sweet-chestnut grove that overlooks the wondrous Devon woodlands and lush fields, for the most stunning views as you survey your very own slice of ancient land and imagine yourself as historic royalty!

Upcott Roundhouse, expertly built by its welcoming owners, the enterprising and history-loving Cole family, is the ideal setting for rustic breaks of any description, whether family, romantic or celebratory.  Everything has been taken care of to provide a realistic sense of what life was like in simpler times past, whilst still ensuring you spend your days in peaceful comfort.

A mini-roundhouse joined to the main living building houses a hot shower, cold-water basin and compost toilet, and some electricity is provided from the solar-power station, dependent of course on sunlight!  Light is otherwise provided from a rechargeable lantern, candles…and the Roundhouse’s jewel in the crown and provider of welcoming warmth, the central hearth with its roaring open fire.  Gather around, drinks in hand, and chatter endlessly about life, love and everything in between.

The Roundhouse has no windows, so you’ll feel delightfully cosy throughout your stay, blocking out the demands of the modern world as you relax and unwind.  You’ll find the furnishings and décor inside blend beautifully with the woodland setting outside, with furniture hand-made from farm wood.

Prepare your meals on the central hearth, or perhaps head for the local pub instead, if you don’t feel like cooking!  A meal for your first night can be ordered in advance, prepared and left on the hearth for you to enjoy as soon as you arrive.  The firebowl barbecue outside is ideal if you prefer to dine al fresco, perhaps finishing with coffee under the stars.

Curl up in the comfy king-sized bed, with futon mattresses also provided which can be made up as needed.
