Perfectly situated in the beating heart of medieval Rye, The Playhouse is stunning architect-owned property that has been beautifully transformed into a show-stopping, dog-friendly couple’s retreat.

Creative types with an eye for style will particularly love the quirky, vibrant décor throughout, with bright bursts of colour, local artwork, and playful accessories (including a huge 90’s ‘acid house’ smiley face!) that promise to give your senses a lift.

You’ll enter The Playhouse through a narrow passageway that leads away from the bustling High Street – so you’ll feel like you’re headed for a deliciously ‘secret’ retreat!

Once inside, the double-height, retro-furnished sitting room is sure to wow you, with its characterful beams, exposed brickwork, and ginormous windows that allow daylight to flood cheerfully inside.

Curl up on the velvet sofa and enjoy a movie on the Smart TV, as the smokeless bio-fuel fire flickers gently in the background.

Although there’s an array of restaurants within walking distance, you’ll have a bespoke kitchen to help you whip up romantic feasts galore, with a kitchen table expertly recycled from the old front door! Enjoy an after-dinner tipple in the courtyard garden, complete with reclaimed furniture and a stunning garden shed.

Simply head up the especially commissioned metal staircase (which comes complete with a neon sign stating ‘Upstairs’, just in case you’re at a loss!) to discover the spectacular bedroom.

What the guests of The Playhouse say

“Thank you for a wonderful weekend. The playhouse completely matched our expectations. We’re heading home with fresh air, new ideas and plenty of beach sand.”

“The Playhouse is a stylish, comfortable and unique house in the centre of Rye, directly off the High Street. An eye for design and real talent has gone into converting an old butchers out house into a gorgeous, modern pied-a-terre. Some of the original features, wooden beams and pulleys still remain around the modern design pieces and mixed with mid-century modern furniture. You feel before you think and as soon as you get inside The Playhouse warmth and lovely smells mean you can start to relax. An easy check-in with a key safe and a very generous welcome pack meant we were having a glass of wine in the cute back yard shortly after arrival. We had booked tables on different nights in the Standard and Globe Inn Marsh pub, both a short walk and enjoyed delicious alfresco dinners. During the days we walked on the lovely local beaches at Pett Level and Camber plus we were able to enjoy the vintage shops in Hastings and the antique shops in Rye.”
