One of National Geographic’s Recommended Back to Nature Retreats, The Officer’s Hideaway is a unique military-themed retreat in the Herefordshire countryside.

Sleeping up to four guests, the main living and sleeping space is provided by a genuine ex-safari military tent, gainfully equipped with two woodburning stoves and a Chesterfield sofa (for higher ranks only!), with a double bedroom and a full kitchen.

Meanwhile, an insulated army tipi features two cosy single beds and a second woodburner… ideal if you’ve brought the kids along.

The wonders continue, in the form of a creative ‘air raid shelter’ bathroom with a piping hot shower and a transparent roof, and a mapped woodland walk strewn with shooting targets for you to enjoy – an ideal activity to get stuck into before you greet the sunset with a well-deserved drink in your wood-fired hot tub!
