So you’re planning a romantic break for two…somewhere you can really get away from it all, perhaps surrounded by the finest country scenery without compromising on a moment of luxury?
Look no further than The Dovecote, where you’ll experience your very own private hideaway in the form of a relaxing round tower for two!
Perfectly positioned in the picturesque village of Penallt, Monmouthshire, The Dovecote has featured in the Guardian Travel’s ‘Cool Holiday Cottages in the Wye Valley’ for its stunning décor, architecture and unusual circular design. Situated in the Wye Valley’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, breathtaking views are assured outside as well as inside your tremendous tower…you may even catch an occasional glimpse of the wild deer who wander regularly into the garden from the nearby ancient woodland!
The Dovecote comprises four glorious levels of accommodation, with the entrance leading you into the charming cottage kitchen. Well-equipped and fit for preparing a sumptuous selection of romantic culinary treats, you’ll discover bespoke worktops and furnishings, all surrounded by a high vaulted, beamed ceiling and a flagstone floor.
A Rayburn range, complete with logs, will keep you toasty no matter what the weather is like, and you can enjoy your meals at the antique pine table as you catch up on life over a bottle (or two!) of wine.
Follow the curved stairs to the first floor, with its decadently spacious circular bathroom. Featuring an angelic white suite, you’ll find a freestanding roll top bath that’s made for endless hours of relaxing in a haven of bubbles and a good book! A curved shower cubicle provides the perfect place to freshen up after a long day exploring the local area.
The stairs continue up to your sensuous sleeping space, with its beautifully dressed brass-framed double bed, authentic furniture and windows that overlook the garden and surrounding woodland. Here, a door opens out onto the drawbridge and gorgeous garden, itself leading into refreshing woodlands and an orchard that’s bursting with the apples and pears used in The Dovecote’s cider and perry house. Stop for a while, and luxuriate in the natural views as you fire up the barbecue and watch the golden sunset.
