Secluded in the ancient Somerset village of Barwick, Rex the Bus is a joyfully quirky, expertly converted double-decker, with panoramic rural views and cosy comforts galore.
Although the bustling town of Yeovil is nearby, you’ll feel worlds away from anywhere as you hop on board, surrounded by a welcoming committee of grazing sheep and inquisitive chickens!
Flooded with daylight and furnished with everything you could possibly need, Rex is ideal for a small family escape, sleeping up to four guests in a snuggly kingsize bed and two standard-sized bunks.
You’ll even have a soft-glowing wood-burner, full Wi-Fi, and a TV to help keep you entertained, though with your own private paddock and so much wide open space all around, there’s plenty of scope to set your imagination free… or simply watch the kids play as you enjoy a well-deserved glass of wine on the furnished decking.
Later on, why not fire up the barbecue and enjoy a sizzling sunset supper all together? You won’t have to worry if it starts to rain, since there’s a well-equipped kitchen for convenient on-board catering, and plenty of cushion-strewn seating.
Oh, and with the driver’s cab fully intact, the kids can pretend they’re driving the bus anywhere they choose to go!
Additional facilities include a downstairs shower with plenty of piping hot water, and a loo and basin on the top deck – meaning there’ll be no queuing for draughty communal washrooms during your stay. Just sit back and enjoy those incredible country views, instead.

What the guests of Rex the Bus say
“A truly special and uniquely wonderful place to stay! A perfect blend of cosy, modern, and… bus! Super comfy beds, well equipped kitchen, lovely private outside area and parking! Lots for the children to explore! We all had so much fun ‘driving’ the bus and pretending to be different passengers! Our host Jo was wonderful too, we didn’t want to leave! And we will be back next year. Thanks Rex!”
“One of the best stays we’ve had as a family. The children absolutely loved Rex and we loved the old features kept/adapted. Not only was our stay made more comfortable by the extras provided, not normally provided with self-catering accommodation, the surroundings are beautiful.”
“Expect a hidden gem with a great host. The bus is a beautifully appointed get-away which is quirky and comfortable for couples or a family. It is set in a beautiful quaint village in rolling hillsides of Somerset. A great find and our only regret was not getting to stay longer.”
