Unique, eco-friendly retreats nestled deep into the Southern Hungarian mountains, in a green valley that’s teeming with nature and activity.
  • Sleeps: 2 per unit
  • Bedroom: 1 per unit
  • Bathroom: 1 per unit
  • Minimum stay: 5 nights

Comprising three unusually upcycled retreats in a fairytale Mecsek mountain valley, Mókus Valley is an idyllic, adults-only setting that’s perfect for unwinding peacefully in nature.

Friendly owners Paul and Mandy live on site, and alongside their own resident cats, dogs, chicken, and sheep, you can expect to meet free-roaming deer, wild boar, a variety of birds, and plenty of colourful butterflies.

Ideal for a romantic couple’s getaway, each retreat sleeps two adults in home-style comfort, with full kitchen and bathroom facilities… and there’s even Wi-Fi available, should you feel the need to log on to real life!

Rugged Csepellina was once a logging truck, built by the historic Hungarian maker Csepel. After a long and faithful life of hard labour, you’ll now find her relaxing by a private pond that’s regularly visited by kingfishers.

Inside there’s a natural ‘log cabin’ feel, with a crackling wood-burner to warm your evenings, and forest views to soothe your souls.

Vintage Rosehouse, meanwhile, was built over 150 years ago, as a ‘honey house’ that sheltered beehives.

These days, you’ll find Rosehouse equipped with mod cons that include a microwave, a huge, cosy bed, and a gorgeous private garden.

More information

Last but by no means least, Green Gypsy is a glamorous former circus wagon, transformed into a stylish, expansive space with elegant décor and plenty of squishy seating.

You’ll find Green Gypsy occupying one of the valley’s most beautiful spots… so it’s a good thing she features such huge, scenery-showcasing windows!

Spend blissful idle time dozing in your two-person hammock, or taking a dip in the on-site heated pool at the fabulously named Retro Socialist Paradise, a communal on-site hangout spot.

Here you’ll also find plenty of sunbeds, and a campfire to sing around by evening… and there’s a regular programme of al fresco movie screenings, too.

If you’re into wildlife-watching, the newly opened ‘Piekaboo’ cabin helps you observe the comings-and-goings of the local animal life, or simply borrow a bike, and see what you can spot in the surrounding area.

Hankering after city life? One of Hungary’s most fascinating places, the heritage-rich city of Pécs, is close by, as are several reviving thermal baths, of the kind Hungary is justly famous for.

Things to note

The site is open from 1st April – 1st November. There is a minimum 5-night stay from April – June, and a minimum 7-night stay throughout July and August. Accommodation can be booked together for larger groups.
