Mallinson’s Woodland Retreat is a unique, adults-only haven, privately nestled in West Dorset woodland for total seclusion, and an unforgettable experience for couples seeking a retreat to nature like no other.

A generous 18ft yurt, Coracle was handcrafted from coppiced sweet chestnut to time-honoured techniques, and is sumptuously furnished with your ultimate comfort in mind.  There’s a crackling log burner for warmth, as electric lighting and glass candle-lanterns cast a gentle glow over snuggly evenings on the sofa.

Later, curl up in the downy kingsize bed, complete with a solid oak headboard, dual control electric blanket and fresh, crisp linen… a dreamy night’s sleep is all but guaranteed.

Elevated in a woodland clearing that overlooks a shimmering pond, you can savour cooking your meals al fresco, on a barbecue that doubles as a fire brazier, or the sleek Morso wood-fired pizza oven – your choice.

Along with a fridge and ice box, there’s a full consignment of crockery, cutlery, and cooking equipment (meaning you can pack perfectly light), with a hot-and-cold washing-up sink and a gas cooking ring to boil the kettle on.  

Relax under the parasol with that freshly-brewed cuppa… once you’re finished, you get to retreat to the hammock under the trees for a lazy afternoon slumber, or a catch-up with that book you never find time for at home.

What about bathroom facilities, we hear you ask?  Well, here you’re in for a treat, as just off your deck awaits a private, piping hot ‘oak tree shower’, at the end of its very own boardwalk.  Completely surrounded by lush woodland and stocked with complimentary Faith in Nature toiletries, you will never want to shower inside again!

What else?  There’s a woodland shop on site, from which you can pre-order goodies for your arrival, such as pizza dough, cider, and wine.  You could also hire an electric bike and whizz your way along the local trails, without as much as a care in the world.

If cooking isn’t your thing, you’ll find plenty of friendly local places to eat and drink, including the owners’ favourite pub, The Tytherleigh Arms, which is just over two miles away.  The iconic River Cottage is also close by and well worth a visit… though pre-booking is essential.

Also within a two-mile walk is Forde Abbey, whose estate borders your yurt retreat.  Take a stroll around the fascinating medieval monastery and gardens, finishing with welcome refreshments in the on-site tea room.

But if you’re really in the mood to exert some energy, you could always head for Pilsden Pen, otherwise known as the second-highest point in Dorset.  Take in scenery that leads across the Marshwood Vale to Golden Cap, all the way out to sea, before making your way back to Coracle for another addictively relaxing evening in.
