Indulge in peace and tranquillity at one of the Shetland Isles' most famous landmarks - the Bressay Lighthouse.
  • Sleeps: 6 per cottage
  • Bedrooms: 3 per cottage
  • Bathroom: 1 per cottage
  • Minimum stay: 3 nights

Since 1858, the Bressay Lighthouse has provided a guiding light to ships navigating Bressay’s rocky headland.  Indeed, positioned at the south entrance to Lerwick Harbour, the ‘Bressa Light’ is a well-known start and finishing post for any journey to or from Shetland by sea.  But today, it also offers the wonderful opportunity to stay on this beautiful island, just off the east coast of mainland Shetland.

Two Lighthouse Keeper’s cottages, each sleeping up to six people in total, offer a unique blend of period accommodation, unparalleled views, and the wilds of Bressay on your doorstep.  They strike the perfect balance between an isolated retreat for utter tranquillity, and convenient amenities just a short step away.  And they are both waiting to make your stay a truly unforgettable one.

Ideal for a family holiday or a getaway with friends, each cottage offers spacious accommodation with large, bright rooms throughout.  Both offer the benefit of two comfortable double bedrooms, as well as a twin room.  A cot can also be arranged if you are travelling with a little one.  Wake to magnificent views across the sea, or perhaps to the stunning sight of the light tower.

A large, comfortable living area in each is furnished with cosy sofas and armchairs, as well as a television and DVD player for entertainment.  A dining table offers room for everyone to sit down and enjoy home-cooked comforts together.

The well-appointed galley kitchen has been stocked with basic supplies of tea, coffee, sugar, and milk – so you can enjoy that well-earned cuppa on arrival! And with a complementary selection of local ales and traditional oatcakes also provided, why not start your holiday with a true taste of the Shetland Isles?

A large, family bathroom in each cottage comes equipped with a bath and electric shower.  The cottages also share a separate laundry and drying room, handy after days spent exploring the island.

And there’s certainly plenty to explore on Bressay!  Just 11 square miles in size, the best way to take in its beauty is on foot.  Look out for the plethora of birdlife that have made Bressay their home – from curlews and skylarks on the moorland, to oystercatchers and lapwings on the coast.  As you explore the rocky headland from Bressay Lighthouse, you might see grey and common seals basking on the rocks, and you could even be lucky enough to see whales and dolphins in the surf.   And don’t forget to watch for otters as they play in the inlets around the east of the island.

What the guests of Bressay Lighthouse say

We had a wonderful stay at Bressay lighthouse. The property
was very warm and cosy and a joy to come back to after we’d been out walking.
The location was perfect. We loved exploring Bressay and were handy for our
gorgeous day trip to Noss.
S. Pillinger (stayed July 2016)

My stay at your lighthouse was wonderful. From the moment
Frank met us to the sad moment of closing the lighthouse gate, the experience
was fantastic. You provided great directions, cosy rooms, a beautiful isle,
travel brochures in the home, easy access to Noss and more. THANK YOU!
K. May (stayed May 2016)

As holiday locations in Scotland go you will struggle to
find one that’s more spectacular. So much to see that we are planning a return
next year. We were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights from the lighthouse
premises during our stay which was an added bonus. If you like the outdoors,
natural history and an inspiring location then this property should be at the
top of your list!
