Boris the Military Pod is a former military trailer which has been given an ingenious new lease of life as a unique island abode for two intrepid guests. Boris is dog-friendly too, so your hound is most welcome. Nestled in a stunningly beautiful mountain landscape, the small township of Kylerhea are the headquarters of renowned tour company Skye Jeep Tours. Boris offers an unforgettable chance to sleep in a piece of military history and wake each morning in one of the most magical, secret corners of Skye.

Arriving at Boris is an adventure in itself. Either take the famous and uber-romantic Glenelg Ferry whose slipway is barely a quarter of a mile form Boris, or take the Kylerhea Pass (highest road on Skye) and take in the breathtaking views of the mountains of Glen Sheil on the mainland.

The first thing that strikes you is just how light and airy Boris is, thanks to classic cream décor and windows on either side. Everything is cleverly arranged to include all necessities and to maximise space. A stay on Boris will be the most comfortable adventure you’ll ever have.

The compact kitchen area has all you need including a hob, oven, fridge and a microwave, as well as all your cutlery and crockery. Essentials such as salt and pepper, tea and coffee, kitchen roll and washing-up liquid have been provided (Covid-19 protocols permitting). All you need to do is bring your favourite rations and decide who gets to be camp cook.

If you don’t feel like creating your own breakfast, Sam and Lynne can provide a continental breakfast for £7.00 per person. Fresh warm croissants and pastries, yoghurt, orange juice, cereal all delivered to your door at a time of your choosing.

The cosy living space doubles up as a dining area, while above, the perspex skylight allows even more light to stream in during the day and is great for star-gazing at night. Handy shelves provide space for your knick-knacks, and there’s even a DVD player with a selection of discs. If you have tablets and laptops you can hop on the wifi – what’s not to like?

More information

Come morning, freshen up in Boris’ wet room. This includes a hot shower, toilet, sink and hairdryer. And, whatever the weather may be outside, you’re sure to stay beautifully warm thanks to the integrated heater which keeps Boris cosy both day and night. There is even air conditioning too for the hot summer months.

As you follow the track from Boris, you’ll be awe struck by the sensational views that greet you. Kylerhea is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, unspoilt and remote. There are no shops or restaurants – just the opportunity to relax and explore the astounding vistas of sea, sky and mountain, as well as the abundant wildlife. There is a wildlife hide around a 30 minute walk from Boris – if you’re lucky, you could spot anything from otters and dolphins to deer and eagles. Pine-martens inhabit the local woodland, and if you are very lucky you may spot them around your accommodation. But to really experience Skye’s incredible wilderness, nothing beats an ‘off the beaten’ track adventure in a Jeep!

Luckily, you’re in the right place. Skye Jeep Tours can take you to all the most famous locations on this stunning island… although they know more than a few of the hidden gems if you want to get away from the crowds. What’s more, it’s the only tour company in the UK which uses a real vintage Jeep to do so. Marianne the Jeep may have racked up some mileage during her time, but she’s still got style as she whisks you off to some classic Skye locations. If you would prefer the luxury of a roof and doors on your ride, then choose the more modern Jeep Wrangler.

So, the next time you’re planning a holiday operation, make it an unforgettable one at Boris the Military Pod – for adventure, exploration and a good deal of fun on the side!

Things to note

What the guests of Boris the Military Pod say

“We had an amazing stay at Boris! The location is stunningly beautiful and the friendly welcome we received from Lynne and Sam was lovely. With Boris being just a short walk to some wildlife hides and the ferry across to Glenelg it it perfectly situated for some wildlife spotting. We were visited by a pine marten one evening next to Boris and down at the ferry slipway we were treated to a fly past from one of the local white tailed eagles. During our stay we also enjoyed a trip with Sam as part of the Skye Jeep Tours which they run. This was also perfect and we very much enjoyed our day out and Sam is an excellent guide around Skye. Many thanks to Lynne and Sam. Long live Boris!”

“The Boris experience can’t be recommended enough – secluded location but easily accessible – via the bridge or the more exciting turn-table ferry! My partner had the best nights sleep in ages – fitted in easily despite his 6″ 4 height! Hosts were so welcoming and full of local tips to help make your stay even better! Enjoyed walking down to the beach in the evening to try and spot the local wildlife. We will be back!!”
Gillian

“My husband, myself and our two dogs are just back from a 5 night stay in Boris and what a wonderful time we had. Lynne & Sam (& Brymer) are brilliant hosts, really go out their way to make sure your stay is comfortable and enjoyable. We will definitely recommend and hopefully be back. Boris is a unique experience and a great base while touring Skye. Thanks again.”
