Artists and writers (aspiring included!) will find plenty of inspiration in the dreamlike setting of Blue Cabin by the Sea.
Blissfully hidden away in Cove Harbour, just 36 miles from Edinburgh’s bustling city centre, yet infused with that magical feeling of being far away from anyone at all, you’ll discover a truly idyllic holiday hideaway for up to four people.
The adventure begins just as soon as you arrive, with access to your wooden cabin gained on foot, via a secret smugglers’ tunnel and across the sandy beach. Your very own windswept holiday story is just about to begin!
Lovingly faithful to its coastal surroundings yet beautifully unique, Blue Cabin by the Sea is owned by an architect and a sculptor, both with an obvious passion for the area’s natural environment (profits from the cabin help support the harbour’s conservation). You’ll find your holiday haven filled with original artwork, local flowers and creative flourishes, including a luxurious wall mirror made from shells, and two high-backed Orkney chairs perfectly situated by the crackling woodburning stove!
The wood-floored, characterful lounge and dining area are straight out of a whimsical coastal storybook, providing the perfect platform from which to gaze across the harbour and out to the sparkling sea dotted with fishing boats (if you tire of these amazing views, you’ll find plenty of books to curl up with, plus WiFi and a flatscreen TV waiting to claim your attention!)
The compact kitchen, delightfully decorated with handmade bronze seaweed hooks and handles, is well-equipped with everything you need to whip up seaside delicacies.
The two comfy bedrooms are artfully decorated in a continuation of the home’s maritime theme, one featuring a double box bed, the other bunk beds. You’ll also find an indulgent shower room complete with underfloor heating and plenty of fluffy towels – perfect for freshening up after a hard day at the beach.

More information
Outside, the furnished terrace and barbecue is the ideal place to watch the sun set over the rockpools and the sea, as you enjoy a sizzling supper and perhaps the odd cheeky glass of wine!
After a hearty breakfast, you’ll no doubt be aching to get out and immerse yourselves in all the beauty the local area has to offer. With this unspoilt area of Scotland sympathetically conserved, you’ll discover an authentic panorama of natural coastal luxury, from the stone steps and winding path that lead from the harbour to the beach, to the whispering trees that line your way. Swimming and rock-pooling are genuine pleasures here, when the weather allows.
Drones or jet-skis are not allowed in the area, meaning the only sounds you’ll hear are those from the birds and the sea – and perhaps the fishermen as they celebrate the day’s catch! Why not treat yourselves to fresh lobster or crab for dinner, or better still, catch your own meals from the pier? This is truly the place where you can enjoy fresh seaside luxury in its natural state, without any of the tourist-attracting touches of a traditional seaside resort.
Aspiring artists need do no more than set up an easel or open a notebook to feel inspired, while those who prefer adventure will enjoy rambling through the cliff-top coastal paths, with plenty of hidden artwork and remains from wrecks and smuggling lairs to capture your imagination!
A trip to Dunbar (John Muir’s birthplace), nearby Fast Castle and Siccar Point will provide plenty of cultural food for thought – not to mention themes for enlivening discussion! – as you head back to your idyllic cabin and fire up the barbecue, listening to the waves crashing all around. Sit back and relax: your holiday is well and truly under way.
