Nuevo al Host Unusual: Unique Eco-Friendly Spanish Holidays

8 March 2018

Viva Espana! Today’s assortment of new arrivals are all celebrating the sun-kissed romance and exuberance of one of our favourite countries on Earth. From the home of Flamenco in Andalucia to the lunar landscapes of the Canary Islands and the expansive palm-strewn coastline of the Costa Blanca, the locations are stunning – and your accommodation choices? Equally so, and all with their own unique eco-twist! Choose from a stylish domed cave house, a range of eclectic solar and wind-powered eco cottages and three spacious safari tents surrounded by nature. Que bueno!

Casa Cova Blanca

Go underground, Spanish style with the exceptional Casa Cova Blanca, nestled within nine acres of olive groves in the Tivenys region of Catalonia and within half an hour’s reach of picturesque beaches, authentic rural villages and mountain ranges. This uniquely domed eco-holiday home features grand high ceilings and three stunning arches with wood and steel shutters. Offering two bedrooms, it is ideal for parties of up to four, with contemporary styled rooms, bold use of colour including splashes of turquoise throughout and striking design features including an open-plan lounge space and kitchen/diner. Fire up the barbecue and recline in the two hammocks, with just the scents of lavender and juniper and that obligatory blazing orange sunset to enjoy – the definition of escapism!

Finca de Arrieta Eco Cottages

Bienvenido and welcome to a friendly, family-run resort that is refreshingly off-grid, using solar and wind power. Turn off that smartphone and embrace, rest,  relaxation and the Canarian fresh air! Finca de Arrieta Eco Cottages are set in Lanzarote’s northeastern landscape, within a traditional village that oozes charm and tranquility, and just a short distance from pretty beaches like Playa de la Garita. The cottages themselves are a fascinatingly varied bunch, including a converted windmill tower, an eco cabin crafted from Canarian stone and a luxury eco villa with Moroccan and Indonesian design. Sit back and enjoy the sublime mountain vistas, take in the rays on your sun lounger or head to the patio for drinks and sunset watching – this is a place where fun and relaxation are your top priority.

Dehesa de las Yeguas

“Pastureland of play” – sounds to us like the most perfectly apt translation of Dehesa de las Yeguas (above and main picture), a natural glamping wonderland set amidst acres of private family-run farmland in sun-drenched Andalucia. The natural setting itself inside the Bahia de Cadiz National Park lends itself to a reviving holiday exploring the outdoors, with the sweet scent of Mediterranean pine trees. Three safari-style tents await you, all fully air-conditioned and heated and offering 50 square metres of space on a raised wooden platform. Think comfortable furniture, relaxing private verandas and stunning natural vistas to wake to each morning and you’re getting close. Your friendly host Amparo can also prepare authentic home-prepared meals delivered directly to your tent after a day of hiking and exploring the glorious beaches in the area.
