New to Host Unusual: Orchards, Deserts and Roaring Campfires

26 September 2017

From orchard escapes to foghorn testing spots and crackling campfires, these early autumn teasers are perfect new arrivals to whet your appetite for future escapades. First we head to Devon and a 4-acre appleorchard, with accommodation including yurts and a converted cider press, all surrounded by beautiful hills (and late availability for THISWEEKEND!). Next to the UK’s only ‘desert ‘ setting of Dungeness and an unusual edifice to suit this desolate terrain, before settling around the embers of The Hideaway’s roaring campfires where you can embrace thetrue spirit of a camping adventure at an eco-friendly site.

The Orchard Retreat

Drop the pace and retreat to this gorgeous Devon sanctuary, with three delightful locally handcrafted yurtsset in 4 acres of orchard, that is every bit as a-peeling as it sounds (sorry!). Be as active or laid-back as you wish, with activities from badminton to massage, yoga to table tennis all on offer on site.  At night, return to your beautifully furnished yurt with stable doors and luxurious cotton canvas. Alternatively why not stay in the uniquely converted former cider press and brewing house, or a cottage nestled within the main courtyard.

The Fog Signal Building

Otherworldy and completely transformed from its original purpose as a foghorn testing station, it isn’t hard to see why the Fog Signal Building has been described as the perfect mini-moonsetting. Delightfully isolated with just the sounds of the sea and the sight of passing boats, it is an unspoilt retreat away from busy life. Inside contemporary style with quality fixtures and fittings, underfloor heating and a woodburner make it easy to create the perfect holiday mood and ambience. On a clear day you may even catch a glimpse of Cap Gris Nez in France!

The Hideaway

Imagine sitting round a crackling campfire, toasting marshmallows and soaking up the atmosphere of a small and friendly campsitein the heart of scenic North Yorkshire. Well that’s exactly what you’llfind at The Hideaway, a place to appreciate nature and the great outdoors. Owner Barney has created a place that focuses on the true spirit of camping – the iconic campfire roaring away and whilst a blanket of stars dot the night sky. The accommodation ranges from luxurious bell tents (above) to ecopods (main picture) and this eco-friendly escape ensures that it has minimal impact on the environment.
