Get ready…and ACTION! Enjoy some of Host Unusual’s favourite adventure-filled getaways

As wonderful as relaxation is, here at Host Unusual HQ we keep a special place in our hearts for those stays that also offer fun-filled adventure, right on site.

Why?  Well, not only does activity keep boredom at bay, it’s great if you’re taking the kids (big kids included!) along, and you might even end up learning a new skill while you’re on holiday. Now that’s what we call positive multitasking!

So sharpen up your sense of adventure, and join us as we take you on a journey through some of our favourite adventure-filled Host Unusual stays.

The Ceridwen Centre,in charming Carmarthenshire, is an eco-friendly, organic farm.  Sounds lovely and peaceful, doesn’t it?  Yet down on this particular farm you’ll find quirky accommodation and more fresh activity than you can shake a stick at!

Stay in everything from a double-decker bus (above) to an eco-pod, with an Old Dairy function room on-site for celebrations.  Oh, and why not book a night in the eco hot tub, whizz around in the dedicated bike skills area, or capture some of the stunning views with help from the on-site art teacher?

If you like your adventure with a refreshing ‘back to basics’ feel, Trannish Island Bothy in County Fermanaghis the very place to try!  This rustic retreat sleeps up to twelve people at a time, on a renovated private island dwelling that’s perfect for intrepid explorers.

Just across the sparkling water of Upper Lough Erne, you’ll find the Share Discover Village, where you can hire a canoe or kayak and take the Canoe Trail. Try banana-boating too, or maybe a Viking Long Ship Cruise instead?  Ifwater-based activity isn’t for you, why not join an environmental workshop, or maybe try your hand at various crafts, film making…or even circus skills!

For a Wild West-inspired family adventure,mosey on down to Loose Reins, based in scenic Blackmore Vale, Dorset – you can even bring your horse with you, if you feel so inclined!  Stay in a comfy and luxurious cabin as you surround yourself with birdsong and greenery and take on-site riding lessons, learn to train a horse, try a spot of wildlife-watching (say hello to Butch and Sundance, the two friendly resident pygmy goats!) or learn a wide array of refreshingly rural crafts.

Anywherewith its own onsite mountain – yes that’s right, onsite mountain! – is bound to make for an ideal spot for some active explorations and trekking. The spectacular site at Hillfort Tipis and Campingfeatures the impressive Garn Faw, which is characterised by rugged terrain, craggy mountain tops and outcrops with spectacular views over the Welsh countryside, out to Crumble Head and the Irish Sea. These trails can be easily accessed from the glamping site, even for those with children, making it a great choice for some mountainside family hiking in one of Wales’s most beautiful regions.

For a spot of gloriously green relaxation and a wee slice of open-air adventure, head to Comrie Croft, Perthshire – your Scottish heartland home-from-home!

Emphasis at Comrie Croft is firmly on care and sustainability of the local environment, fully enhanced by a stay in a handmade Nordic kata tent surrounded by squirrels.

Bikers are spoilt for choice with the Crieff-Comrie paths network, and just over the valley is Do it Outdoors and Action Glen, where you can get the adrenaline pumping with high-ropes, try your hand at archery, oreven indulge in a spot of backwoods cooking.

Camp Katur, an off-grid glamping village found in Bedale, North Yorkshire,will encourage you to discover your ‘outdoor happiness’ in true natureful style!  On the historic site, you’ll have the opportunity to explore acres of wondrous woodland, with activities ranging from segway treks and clay pigeon shooting to an aerial extreme treetop adventure.

The Little Tinkers Toy Den will keep the little ones amused, and for sizzling family dining with an al-fresco difference, why not book an evening in ‘The Podfather’ – a Norwegian woodland barbecue pod?

Loch Ken Eco Bothies and Glamping (above) is a luxurious lochside eco-retreat in beautiful Dumfries and Galloway.  Featuring private hot tubs and Mongolian yurts, these three sustainable bothies also offer an array of captivating onsite activities.

Explore Loch Ken with your own kayak and indulge in a spot of fishing – or back on dry land, how about thrilling zip-lining or a blast of Laserquest?  Wildlife lovers can also trek the Galloway Red Kite trail, or visit the local deer range.
