New to Host Unusual: Art Deco Barge, Oxford Yurt, Old Summer Dairy and A Secret Garden
Join our excitement as we announce yet more new quirky accommodation experiences here at Host Unusual. It is our aim to provide an antidote to the standard hotel model of old and with these new arrivals we have definitely ticked the box. We start by plying the waters of the Thames on a colourful barge with excellent hosts who will tailor your experience to you. A similarly bespoke adventure awaits at Oxford Yurt where fun, laughter and good times are on tap. Next a natural glamping retreat filled with wildlife amidst some of Somerset's finest scenery, before ending with a cute hidden pod and 'Secret Garden', complete with wooden hot tub that ignites both fantasy and intrigue in the heart of Kent.
Experience a carefree aqua-adventure and peaceful alternative life, gently plying the waters of the River Thames, with a stay on Art Deco Barge. This roomy barge is hosted by owners Dave and Joyce who converted it in 2014 and now invite two lucky guests to join them as they cruise the waterways, taking care of everything during your stay including meals. Navigating a route between Kingston-upon-Thames and Oxford, you'll pass by many scenic stops such as Windsor, Hampton Court and Henley, with plenty of places to disembark and explore.
For a group weekend with your favourite people in one place and not one hint of a dull moment, look no further than The Oxford Yurt! Owner Sarah has created an ideal setting for hen parties and group celebrations, with eco-friendly accommodation ranging from a large geodome sleeping 13 and yurts sleeping 8 and 12. Activities range from wine tasting to fancy dress, Bollywood dancing to mixology, life drawing to drumming workshops. Add communal dining to the fun atmosphere and you have a winning formula!
Wildflowers, wildlife, fresh air and nature: they all abound here at Old Summer Dairy, where being off-grid, switching off your phones and tapping into your inner naturalist are order of the day. Your setting is Somerset and with a great vantage point over to Glastonbury Tor you are spoilt for postcard views. Choose to stay in either a magnificently crafted wood-framed log cabin or one of the roomy 6-metre bell tents. Wildlife enthusiasts will love it here, with roe deer, badgers, rabbits, hares and resident Pipistrelle bats amongst the locals to meet.
Inspired by the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, this unlocked garden oasis with a hidden bedroom evokes the same childhood mystery and curiosity. Located within easy reach of both historic Canterbury and popular Whitstable, two of the Garden of England's most treasured spots, this unique wooden pod has unusual skyward views and calming green murals to create a very quirky place to stay. Get cosy with the help of a wood burning stove, underfloor heating and the wooden hot tub - making A Secret Garden an ideal little romantic hideaway in the heart of Kent.
