Lights, camera…ACTION! Our favourite ‘cinema room’ stays

29/10/2018 Lights, camera…ACTION! Our favourite ‘cinema room’ stays

Most of us have collected fond memories of the cinema over the years. Whether it's queuing to see the first Star Wars or the latest Harry Potter, or anticipating the latest art-house movie to hit the scene, a trip to the pictures can feel very special - particularly if you're bringing the popcorn!

Now those crisp autumn nights are starting to draw in, there's nothing quite like snuggling up to watch a movie - even when you're on holiday.

In fact, especially when you're on holiday!

Getting out and taking in the sights of somewhere new can be exhilarating, but there's something uniquely warm and delicious about kicking back and enjoying a film with your favourite people. Particularly when the weather is waging war outside, and you've got your very own cinema room.

(Better still, there'll be no annoying whispers from the next seats, and you can press ‘pause' when the munchies run out!)

Sounds great, right? But where exactly can you enjoy the delights of a bespoke cinema room?

We've got a few of our favourites to show you right now...so if you're sitting comfortably, let's roll that camera.

Suffolk Skytower
is first up, an awe-inspiring, 80ft landmark that features panoramic rural views of the Shotley Peninsula.

Sleeping up to 18 people, this picturesque tower is ideal for group celebrations, with accommodation generously spaced over seven floors, and a stunning roof garden that's perfect for cocktail gatherings.

While those gorgeous views will captivate your attention outside, inside is just as entertaining.  There's an entire room given over to TV, games and karaoke, and you'll also discover a theatre-style cinema room with lit-up steps, for evenings worthy of at least one Oscar.

Barford-cinema.jpg

A luxurious home-from-home set within the invigorating Cornish landscape, Barford Beach House is a former 1930's bungalow, beautifully renovated to sleep up to 16 people.

Floor-to-ceiling windows provide superlative views of the secluded Wanson Mouth beach, and there are plenty of glorious surprises inside your characterful holiday home!

Full of hand-picked, reclaimed and vintage furnishings throughout, the zinc-clad atrium makes for an impressively grand entrance. Meanwhile, the ‘secret' underground party cavern comes equipped with a bar, pool table and arcade games.

After a sauna session, gather everyone together and relax in the bespoke cinema room, complete with plush sofas to stretch out on. What a holiday!

Number-36-Roxy-cinema.jpg

If you're hankering after a touch of old-school Hollywood glamour, Number 36 and The Roxy, based in a former Axbridge coaching inn, will be your idea of cinema heaven.

Groups of up to 12 can enjoy the comforts of this delightfully cosy inn - along with exclusive use of The Roxy, an art deco, 36-seater cinema. There's a foyer, authentic folding seats...and even a 1950's cocktail bar. This is all the joy of the pictures, just for you!

Beach-Sun-Retreat-cinema.jpg

We know winter can be hard for those who miss the summer sunshine. Now you can turn a SAD face into a happy one, with a stay at Beach Sun Retreat, a Kent-based home that's perfect for unique group celebrations.

A former boutique hotel, this amazing house features a Real Sunlight multi-sensory room - equipped with palm trees, adjustable sound, water features and light settings.

Bask in healthy, harmless 30 degree sunshine without leaving the house - and by evening, in-house DJ equipment and lighting mean you can stage the private party to end all parties.  Meanwhile, the bespoke cinema room, complete with surround-sound, vintage seating and a popcorn maker, is just the setting for lazy Sunday (or even Monday!) afternoons.

callander-castle-bar.jpg

An historic castle nestled within 12 acres of the beautiful Trossachs, Callander Castle features some of the most awe-inspiring surroundings you'll ever feast your eyes upon...inside and out.

A mere 15-minute walk from ‘the gateway to the Highlands' that is Callander, artist-owners Stuart and Nikki McAlpine have filled the castle with plenty of creative flair, iconic artwork and fun imagination.

The 100-ft reception room is jaw-droppingly grand, while the morning room is home to a digital baby grand piano. On rainy days however, you'll want to spend your time holed up in the dedicated cinema turret, in front of your favourite film.

casa-kaleidoscope-cinema-room.jpg

A serene Grade II-listed Georgian house on the outside, inside Norfolk's Casa Kaleidoscope is a fantastic haven of fun that's ideal for groups looking to celebrate in serious style!

Featuring vibrant splashes of colour and creativity throughout, there are nine luxurious bedrooms that sleep up to twenty people. Add a hot tub, a karaoke machine, DJ decks with dance floor, and a 6-foot cinema screen, and you'll keep each and every one of those twenty people perfectly entertained, all holiday long.

(There's even a dressing room filled with Hollywood costumes, if you feel like re-enacting any of your favourite movie scenes!)

Sunridge-cinema.jpg

Ripe for a fairytale adventure, Sunridge Treehouse is an idyllic escape for up to six people, nestled in Devon's stunning Yealm Valley.

You may need to rethink your idea of traditional ‘treehouse' living, because this wooden-clad, two-storey haven offers all the glorious comforts of home - and much, much more besides.

Not only can you enjoy snuggling up on a cosy sofa, in front of a crackling woodburner, you can take a bubble-filled soak in a sumptuous free-standing bath. Later on, an ultra-modern ‘snuggery' awaits you downstairs, equipped with a private 3D cinema that's perfect for screening the latest HD blockbuster.

Seacombe-cinema-room.jpg

Last but by no means least on our list is Seacombe, an award-winning designer South Devon escape, surrounded by windswept National Trust-designated coast.

Sleeping up to 7 people, Seacombe is cleverly built into a hillside and accessed across a timber bridge. Enjoy panoramic views of the coast from huge south-facing windows, while if you're in ‘cosy film mode', the cinema room offers some marvellous interior views.

Accessed through an opening bookcase (very James Bond!) you'll discover a 106" screen with surround sound, dimmable lighting, sofas and an extensive DVD and BluRay collection.

So, which of our ‘cinema room' escapes wins your Oscar for ‘Best Holiday'? If the vote is tied, why not come and visit even more of our cosy escapes on our website?

We're sure you'll find a Hollywood-style holiday that's worth rolling out the red carpet for!
