Rye Windmill
England / Rye, East Sussex
Full description
A friendly, family-run B&B in an iconic Grade II-listed landmark, perfectly nestled on the banks of a picturesque river.
An ideal setting for awakening your creative spirit, Rye Windmill is perfectly positioned on the banks of the river Tillingham. This much-loved local landmark is an ideal base for you to explore the romantic cobbled lanes of the town that has inspired artists and writers throughout the ages.
The striking, white smock windmill itself has stood proudly for centuries, and was once a thriving bakery. These days, you'll find ten beautiful guest rooms (including two suites - ideal if you're celebrating something special), along with a relaxing lounge and licensed bar area.
Not to mention a tasty, locally-sourced breakfast, cooked to order every day!
Choose from eight cosy double or twin rooms, each one complete with a spacious ensuite and a digital TV...for those unlikely times when you tire of the soothing views from your window.
The two suites are situated in the windmill itself, for a unique and authentic sense of history. You'll find the charming four-poster room, complete with a Juliet balcony, in the original 300 year-old brick base of the mill.
Meanwhile, the Windmill Suite is the most spectacular room, luxuriously spaced over two floors and boasting panoramic town-and-country views. With private balcony access, you can enjoy that blazing sunset as it sinks over the horizon...best accompanied with a glass of bubbles!
If you prefer chatting the evening away with new friends, head for the lounge area, where you can relax in front of the fire on squishy sofas - or soak up the rays on the sun terrace.
After a sound night's sleep, your friendly hosts Kathryn and Toby will be waiting to welcome you to ‘The Granary' for a hearty home-cooked breakfast. What a way to greet the day!
Better still, you'll have an almost endless choice of things to do once you've finished breakfast. There's the town of Rye itself, of course, one of the most scenic and characterful settings Britain has to offer.
Then there's the rich countryside, sprinkled with glittering jewels that include grand stately homes and gardens, nature reserves, and historic castles. Or how about a romantic, windswept coastal stroll instead?
With so much to see and do, and such an iconic place to rest your heads, this is one holiday that promises to restore the wind to those sails!
Things to note
Check-in is between 4pm-8pm (early check-in is available on request). Check-out is between 8am-11am. No children under 12. Dogs are permitted at a small extra charge (dogs are not permitted in the breakfast area). Gift vouchers are available.
