Learn to appreciate nature again and relax in a lovingly handcrafted off-grid cabin, secluded in its own Devon woodland glade.
  • Sleeps: 2
  • Bedroom: 1
  • Bathroom: 1
  • Minimum stay: 1 night

You’ll find the award-winning Bulworthy Project, a sustainable woodland enterprise and recent Gold Award recepient by Green Tourism, set within 12.5 refreshing acres of Rackenford woodland – on the crest of a hill known as Bulworthy Knap, to be precise!

Friendly owners Anna and Pete are passionate about sustainability in every sense of the word, and they moved into the woods back in 2009 to begin living their dream lives. These days, they make charcoal, take guests on a free guided tour of their beautiful woodland surroundings and welcome guests to their handcrafted eco cabin, which was recently featured on Channel 4’s ‘Living Wild, How to Change your Life’

Rich in natural luxury, the off-grid cabin has been carefully constructed from materials including naturally fallen heartwood oak and cherry wood, to blend beautifully with its surroundings.

Secluded in a magical woodland glade, you’ll have your own hammock, campfire, and barbecue for sizzling sunset suppers, while inside there’s plenty of solar electricity and cosy creature comforts to enjoy. There’s an ensuite bathroom, and a kitchenette equipped with all the essentials. Downy bedding and towels are all supplied too…meaning you can pack wonderfully light!

Water is heated by a crackling woodburner, which creates a gorgeous romantic glow by evening. With a selection of books and games thoughtfully provided, you can relax and reconnect with the one you love, free from endless digital distractions (though you will find WiFi and USB sockets to charge your phone, should you need them).

After a sound, silent night’s sleep, wake to a chorus of birdsong as you enjoy a freshly steaming, al fresco coffee. Then, why not set out and explore the woodland, wonderfully described as a “mosaic of habitats” by the Devon Wildlife Trust? There is a complimentary guided tour of the area, so you can learn about the area as well as taking in the scenes! (On a clear day, you may even be able to spot Dartmoor from some places in the woods, and don’t forget to greet the chickens and pigs that dot your way).

If you prefer travelling further afield, there are plenty of lovely local pubs to while away some time in. There’s even a Michelin-starred tavern, the 13th century Mason’s Arms, within a ten-minute driving distance.

What the guests of Bulworthy Eco Cabin say

“We came, we saw, we loved it!
Quiet, clean, non-intrusive, on-point and as advertised. Wonderful hosts! Natural, peaceful…You can just enjoy the nature, watch the skies, have a great time by the barbecue, or camp fire and explore the surrounding beaches and wooded areas as well as seaside towns.”

“What an absolutely awasome place! We had a fantastic relaxing weekend. Thank you! Oh and the cabin build is amazing, top spec build! We really do not want to go home!!! See you again.”

“Wow! Such a great experience! It was everything that we hoped it would be. The cabin is very well built & had everything that we needed. It really became our home from home in the woods. There’s so many nice touches: a well equipped kitchenette, easy to use woodburner, a very nice shower and even freshly cut flowers. Pete and Anna are very lovely people and so welcoming. We were lucky to be part of the barbecue café event, and the food was delicious and healthy (locally sourced from trusted suppliers and by themselves). We can’t wait to come again! Thank you so much, guys!”
