Full description
A unique, not-for-the-faint-hearted camping adventure, in a hanging tent that's dramatically suspended 2000ft above Honister Pass for awe-inspiring Lake District views.

Enjoy camping, but wish that cosy tent could come with a little extra adventure?

Honister Cliff Camping takes sleeping under the stars to a thrilling new level, offering you the chance to sleep in a comfy portaledge (a safe, hanging tent system used by rock climbers) ...

...that's anchored to Honister's famous high-wire Infinity Bridge (so named because it seems to stretch out forever) raised 2,000 feet above the valley floor!

Perfectly positioned right in the heart of the Lake District, spectacular views are guaranteed. If you're brave enough, that is.

Steeped in fascinating heritage, Honister is England's last working slate mine. You'll also find plenty of all-weather activity and adventure here to tempt the most discerning of thrill-seekers - which is why the journey to your two-person tent is almost as exciting as the experience itself!

Cross the bridge to reach your cosy portaledge, furnished with luxury sleeping bags and a goodie-packed Cumbrian food hamper. Together with the chance to watch the most spectacular sunsets and sunrises you'll ever see, you're sure to concur that the rewards are more than worth the racing heartbeats!

Oh, and when you've finished watching that sunrise, you'll be treated to a freshly prepared Borrowdale bacon butty in the on-site Hi Sky Café... what a way to start the day.

Don't worry if you can't face a whole night suspended, though, as there's also the option of enjoying a tasty bubble-fuelled brunch, or an indulgent afternoon tea surrounded by those mesmerising views, instead.

(Don't worry about the weather, either - with vouchers available, you can simply watch and wait for the best time to try this adventure!)

And what of the other adventures and activities at Honister?

Well, you could take things to the other extreme and go deep underground on a guided mine tour, learning about its 450-million-year old volcanic green slate, and delving into the beautiful underground caverns.

Explosive special effects and enhanced reality technology allows you to imagine exactly what life would have been like as a miner, all those years ago.

You could also take the original via ferrata (Italian for "iron path") - a safe, outrageously picturesque outdoor climbing route that follows the historic miners' path high onto Fleetwith Pike.

One thing is for certain: however you choose to spend your time at Honister, it's going to be anything but dull!

Things to note

No previous experience is required for Honister Cliff Camping - just a basic level of fitness and a head for heights! For safety reasons you will be required to wear a harness at all times, even when sleeping, and staff are on call 24/7. The experience is weather dependent, and vouchers can be purchased in advance. Children welcome but must be accompanied by an adult on the experience, be at least 1.3m tall and over the age of 8.
