Get up close and personal with the natural world, from the comfort of a treetop bedroom in Panamá's tropical paradise.
Originally built in 1965, the Canopy Tower once helped defend the Panamá Canal. Today, it serves as a stunning observation point and as restful accommodation in the heart of Soberanía National Park, surrounded by some of the very best birdwatching spots in the area.
You won't have to leave the comfort of your bedroom to feast your eyes and ears upon a stunning array of birds and wildlife. With your room beautifully set at treetop level, you can awake each morning to a tropical chorus of exotic birdsong, while fascinating varieties come to pay friendly visits (read: don't forget your camera and binoculars!)
It almost goes without saying that the views in this part of the world are exceptional, and from the Canopy Tower's dedicated Observation Deck you'll be offered an intimate, up-close picture of flourishing rainforest life that would be virtually impossible from the ground. Greet the occasional troupe of mantled howler monkeys as the sun rises over the trees, then gaze at iridescent giant Morpho butterflies and rarely-sighted birds as a ship glides languorously through the Panamá Canal. Finally, you're in paradise.
Choose from two spacious suites, Blue Cotinga on the second floor, and Harpy Eagle on the first. The spectacular, light-filled Blue Cotinga Suite overlooks the forest from enormous windows, and comes complete with a hammock and a hanging chair to relax in. Meanwhile, the view-filled Harpy Eagle Suite is luxuriously roomy, complete with a desk and two cosy beds.
There is also a comfortable range of self-contained Canopy Rooms, and a selection of single rooms with shared facilities.
Whichever room you choose, outstanding views are assured. Relax in the comfort of your room, choose a book from the library and claim a hammock, or head to the Observation Deck, set 50 feet above ground, armed with your camera and some fresh coffee!
You'll find the dining room in the Canopy Tower on the 3rd floor at treetop level, and meals here are often accompanied by views of Geoffroy's Tamarins, Keel-billed Toucans and Green Iguanas from the dining room windows - an experience surely not to be missed.
There is an engaging variety of specialised tours available, should you feel like immersing yourself even more in the local environment. Learn more about the fascinating wildlife, open your mind to the intriguing cultural history of Panamá, or set off on a Mammal and Birding Adventure.
We can't imagine for one moment that you'll tire of wildlife-watching, however if you do feel like taking a break, you'll discover plenty to see and do all around...from the Panamá Canal Visitor Center and the Interoceanic Museum, to shopping for fineries in Panamá City - literally the crossroads of the world!
But for now, enjoy a drink from the comfort of your natural paradise and marvel at your excellent holiday taste, as you realise exactly why so many acclaimed travel journals have praised Canopy Tower as the ultimate ecotourism experience. It's certainly an experience that has to be lived at least once in any average lifetime!
