Mollycroft Showmans Wagon
Glamourous mid-century vintage showman's wagon holiday home with many original features and fittings.
If you've ever dreamed of running away with the fair, you'll fall in love with Mollycroft. It is a gorgeous showman's wagon, that once toured the country with a coconut shy, now retired to a private garden in the Somerset hills.
The wagon started life in 1949, built as a home for a travelling showman's family. It is as glamorous as you would expect, with its original mahogany fittings, chrome and cut glass. Traditionally, showman's wagons had elaborately painted ceilings, and Mollycroft is no exception. The ceilings have been painted by graffiti artist Xenyz with a beautiful sky complete with flying birds.
Mollycroft is as spacious as you'd expect from a showman's family home, with a separate bedroom, open plan living area and washroom. You enter the wagon through the living area. At its heart is a woodburning stove, which keeps the whole wagon warm on cold nights. Arrive in winter, and you'll find the stove already burning. The kitchen area is equipped with a gas oven, sink and everything else you'll need to cook and eat. If you'd rather someone else did the cooking, there are several local pubs just a short walk away along country lanes.
Through the sliding doors is the double bedroom, with its fitted wooden cupboards, comfy bed and lovely views out over the fields. On the other side of the wagon is the washroom, with a shower fed by rainwater, and a compost toilet.
Outside, you'll discover even more living space. The wagon has a veranda with a table and chairs - the perfect place for breakfast in the sun. Then there is the colourful tent lounge, which gives you an extra living room in the summer months. From there, you can sit back, pour a glass of wine, and watch the sun set over the hills.
If you can tear yourself away from those views, you'll find plenty to do in the countryside around Mollycroft. The Mendip Hills are fantastic for walkers and cyclists, with plenty of trails to follow and villages to explore along the way.
Nearby Wells, England's smallest city, is a lovely place to spend a day, with a stunning cathedral and some fantastic farmers' markets. Glastonbury is also close by, with its colourful shops and hippy vibes. Walk up Glastonbury Tor for incredible views over Somerset. Slightly further afield are Bath and Bristol, both good for shopping and culture.
Mollycroft is a romantic glamping retreat for two, in a vintage home-on-wheels, surrounded by stunning Somerset countryside.
