Cherry Pickers Cabin
England / Teynham, Kent
Full description
A fascinating and historic retreat, charmingly styled to spirit you back to orchard life in the 1940s, privately nestled in the heart of Kent.
The Kent village of Lynsted could be described as a perfect example of English rural idyll. Boasting acres of timeless greenery, here you'll discover listed buildings galore, not to mention an ancient yew, and a shimmering duck pond.
(Is it any wonder that Kent locals refer to the village as "Lovely, Lovely Lynsted"?)
The village was once famous for its heaving, sweet-scented cherry orchards, to which visitors would travel during the harvest. Privately nestled amongst eight rural acres, Cherry Pickers Cabin will make you feel as though you've just arrived to join the picking season!
Friendly owners and local history enthusiasts Louise and Terry have expertly refurbished their old cabin with the intention of transporting guests back to the 1940s, so you'll find it oozing with character, and beautifully decorated in authentic vintage style.
Upcycled local furnishings, quirky accessories, and original features are sure to bring on smiles, while the cabin's decidedly modern facilities - including a Freeview TV and high-speed internet - will help you relax in comfort.
Sleeping up to four guests (and their well-behaved pets), there's a downy double bedroom and a shower room, for sound nights' sleep and invigorating morning freshen-ups. Two additional guests can be accommodated on the comfy purpose-built bunk beds, which double as a sofa when not in use, in the open plan living space.
There are full kitchen facilities, with an electric oven and hob to help you whip up country-style feasts. Why not head outside to your paddock and orchard and pick some delicious cherries, plums or apples?
You'll also find a barbecue, a firepit, and garden furniture for al fresco sunset suppers... perhaps with a little stargazing over toasted marshmallows later on?
If you can tear yourselves away from your orchard haven, why not set out on one of the many farm footpaths that surround you? With your cabin set in the extensive grounds of a 16th century thatched cottage, there's plenty of history to enthral you, too.
Amble into the local village to browse independent shops and visit traditional pubs, or take a trip to the stunning, wildlife-steeped Medway Estuary, just two miles away, and travel the ancient Saxon Shore Way for an even greater time-travelling experience.
(But if you'd rather stay in the bustling present, you can always jump on a train and be in London within 90 minutes!)
If you're lucky, you'll get an additional taste of 1940s authenticity from the sky, as your cabin is on the flightpath for the Headcorn and Biggin Hill Spitfires... so keep your eyes and ears open!
Otherwise, simply kick back with a refreshing drink and a good book, just as you would have done way back when, and let time carry you gently away.
Things to note
Check in from 3pm - 9pm, check out by 11am. Children of all ages are welcome, and a travel cot and highchair can be provided on request.
