Bessie the Vintage Caravan
Exquisite vintage caravan, dating back to 1958, fully restored to provide characterful accommodation for two.
Reawaken childhood memories or make brand new ones with a stay in beautiful Bessie the Vintage Caravan. A cosy romantic retreat on the border of Cornwall and Devon, she provides a perfect bolthole to not only transport you away from the stresses of life, but also back in time!
This 1958 treasure has been loving restored to offer exquisite accommodation for two at the family-run Wooda Farm Holiday Park, a former working farm just outside Bude, Cornwall. From the stunning wallpaper depicting birds and foliage, to the splendid blue and cream upholstery throughout, a stay in Bessie takes you back to simpler days when touring Britain in a caravan was the pinnacle of adventure.
Bessie exudes charm and character from your first sighting of her; her cheerful blue and white exterior brightens up even the cloudiest day, and her original door with oval window welcomes the curious inside to see what further intrigue lays in store. You won't be disappointed, as every detail has been carefully attended to in order to create a truly authentic 1950s experience.
Vintage touches throughout, including the gold sunburst clock and old books to curl up with, recreate the interior of Bessie's heyday. In the kitchen, you'll find every utensil you need for self-catering, as well as original crockery, making mealtimes even more special here. Even Bessie's original fridge has been restored! However, the stove could not be brought back to life, so guests are provided with an outdoor cooking hut next to Bessie with its own stove for use.
The fixed double bed has been lovingly prepared with beautiful bedding for a comfortable night's sleep in the peace and quiet of this holiday park, and while Bessie doesn't offer her own bathroom facilities, guests are invited to use the owner's family bathroom facilities, located just around the corner from the caravan.
Guests are also provided with outdoor seating and a BBQ in their own private garden - a perfect spot for enjoying anything from your morning coffee right through to evening drinks. If you want a night off from self-catering, that's no problem; take a stroll along to the onsite Courtyard Bar and Grill for a delicious meal, where live music in the summer months adds to the ambience. However, if you'd rather, you can of course dine in the comfort of the caravan, with the onsite Lodge Takeaway offering anything from fish and chips, to pizza, to salads.
Wooda also boasts a wide range of fantastic leisure facilities, including a fitness suite, badminton and tennis courts, pitch and putt, archery and even a fishing lake! You can also purchase Wi-Fi, and onsite laundry facilities are useful for those lucky enough to make time for a longer stay in Bessie.
With so much to do on site, you could easily fill your days with activities at Wooda, but do make sure you spend some time exploring the local area! A mile and a half away, Bude is a truly stunning town teeming with shops, restaurants and wonderful beaches. A popular spot for surfers, why not take up the chance for a few lessons? Atlantic Pursuits is a local company that will hire out equipment and teach you the basics, and there's nothing like coming back from a holiday having mastered a new skill!
For exploration a little further afield, Wooda's fantastic location on the border of Devon and Cornwall makes this an ideal spot from which to explore both counties. From coastal walks in the summer to cosy pubs in the winter, this area really does offer something wonderful for visitors all year round.
We're frequently told how life was better years ago, and if a stay in Bessie the Vintage Caravan is anything to go by, there's every chance that this is true! So for a truly unique and perfectly simple holiday to remember, Bessie really is one-of-a-kind.
