The Blue Chapel
Wales / Llwyngwril, Snowdonia
Full description
A fascinating conversion with intricate Gothic styles and modern home comforts alike, soothingly set in the heart of a scenic Snowdonia village with dreamlike views over Cardigan Bay.
The showpiece of a charming Snowdonia village, The Blue Chapel is perfectly nestled between the quaint harbour resort of Aberdyfi, and bustling Barmouth, a picturesque seaside town teeming with traditional stone cottages.
Not only is there abundant scope for exploring the beautiful coastline and large sandy beaches with your four-legged friend in tow, but you can also expect incredible mountain-and-sea views from your celestial retreat, whether you're inside or out.
Featuring an intricate, often jaw-dropping melange of Gothic styles, inside await elaborate art and detailed wooden carvings, grand staircases, baroque ceilings, and arched stained-glass windows... not to mention a breath-taking organ gallery.
Though none of this means you'll be without those cosy creature comforts that make a holiday complete. Contemporary facilities include a kitchen packed with gleaming appliances, two opulent bathrooms, and even fibre broadband - just in case you feel like checking back in with the ‘real' world at any point.
Dog-friendly and sleeping up to 8 guests, you'll have three elegant and comfortable ground-floor bedrooms to choose from: a kingsize ensuite with a freestanding bath, a cosy double, and the four-bunk ‘Crown Room' that's ideal for the kids (or giggly grown-up sleepovers, you choose!) Whichever room you opt for, you're sure to find your bed fantastically comfy.
The first floor is home to a sumptuous, light-filled living space, furnished with sofas, a sociable dining table and chairs, a snug ‘reading corner' nestled underneath a skylight window, and a fireplace to complete the cosy atmosphere.
Here you'll also find the aforementioned well-equipped kitchen, and the jewel in the crown... a stunning balcony that showcases incredible views. Look to the east for soaring mountains, and the west to gaze out over the Irish Sea.
There's also a Moroccan-inspired courtyard garden with a barbecue, in case you're in the mood for a sizzling al fresco supper.
How you spend the rest of your time here is completely up to you. There are plenty of winding nature walks to get delightfully lost on, and an atmospheric pebble beach just a short wander away (simply hop in the car or take the train a short way, if you prefer larger expanses of golden sand).
Slightly further afield lie well-known delights that include Mount Snowdon, the highest mountain in England and Wales, and the famed Zip World, which boasts the fastest zip line in the world over a 1.5km quarry drop, for those brave enough to give it a go! The Italianate Portmeirion Village is also within easy reach.
Though if you'd rather not stray too far, you can hole yourselves up at the friendly and acclaimed local pub, less than two minutes' walk through the peaceful village. Better still, cradle an evening tipple out on your balcony at The Blue Chapel, and drink in that magnificent sunset.
Things to note
Minimum stay: 3 nights from September - June, 7 nights during summer holidays (Sat - Sat). Well-behaved dogs are welcome at no extra charge.
