A luxuriously cheery, lovingly crafted woodland escape complete with hot tub, dreamily nestled in the heart of rural Sussex.

Once you arrive at Hobbit House, magically crafted into a woodland hill in the heart of Sussex countryside, it would be easy to feel as though you're blissfully miles away from anywhere at all.

Yet with Bodiam Castle in easy walking distance, you've got this amazing part of the world entirely at your feet.

The authentic house itself has been beautifully constructed from local materials, and sleeps up to four guests in two en-suite bedrooms. Set within the owner's vineyard, there are stunning views all around - and these only continue as you step through the round, intricately-carved front door.

Enter into the gorgeous open-plan living and dining area, which has plenty of welcoming space for everybody to stretch out and relax in. You'll find a squishy patchwork sofa and a hand-crafted wooden bench all ready and waiting, along with a cosy sheepskin rug, and plenty of plump cushions.

After breaking bread at the dining table, simply fire up the wood-burning stove for a soothing evening of chatting and catching up over drinks (just switch on the Sky-installed Smart TV if you get bored). Even the ceiling has the wow-factor here; vaulted, beamed, and sprinkled with stars.

Plenty of careful attention to detail has been paid, not only to the beauty of your comfy surroundings, but in ensuring you'll have everything you need during your stay. The kitchen area is fabulously equipped with appliances galore, including a Nespresso coffee machine, and that all-important dishwasher.

(In fact, with solid oak flooring and toasty underfloor heating throughout, it feels a little bit like Bilbo Baggins has requested an upgrade!)

With all accommodation spaced on one level, you won't even need to climb any stairs to head for the land of nod. Both of the ensuite bedrooms are kingsize, with plenty of furniture and storage - there's even a wall-mounted TV to keep you entertained. Meanwhile, each shower room is equipped with a heated towel rail.

Prefer relaxing al fresco? No problem. How about a refreshing dip in your very own hot tub, as the sun sinks over the whispering trees? There's a furnished cottage garden to sit out in, armed with a good book - and a tennis court nearby, if you're feeling more energetic.

By day, take lazy river walks, or even launch your own kayaks from the riverbank. The nearby ancient towns of Rye and Winchelsea are ripe for exploring, and if you prefer a day at the beach, Camber Sands is only a short drive away.

There are plenty of local pubs and restaurants to sample too, if you're in no mood for cooking. In fact, how about a trip to the Curlew restaurant nearby, which sells rosé wine produced from Hobbit House's vineyard?

While you sit back, relax and enjoy, you're sure to raise a glass to a truly unique and memorable stay.

Things to note

No pets permitted. Check in 3pm, check out 10am.

Tried and tested

"The Hobbit House is amazing. The look and feel of the place is magical and it will be hard to beat. The owners were lovely. The location is great for exploring. If you don't want to drive you can walk 15 minutes to Bodiam Castle, The Hub or the steam railway. Hastings and Rye are about 40 minutes by car. Battle Abbey is a 15 minute drive. The countryside is beautiful."
